It wasnt over jewelry, it was over two armed robbers. And taking cover behind a vehicle is bad, but the alternative is to step out and get gunned down.

NO...The alternative is to hold your fire to see if you can negotiate...What do the police do in the case of a shooter at a school, blow up the school to make sure the shooter is killed???

Records show that both men have extensive felony criminal records,

Our fabled Justice System at work, once again. WHY in the Hell were they loose, especially after committing felonies? Probation? Bail?

It seems the Justice System shirks it's duty and recycles these violent people back into Society, perhaps hoping the CCWs will take care of the problem, if not, the police, who seem at first blush to have been trigger-happy.

aren’t most armored car robberies inside jobs?Quite a few store robberies involve an ex-employee who knows how much cash and when it moves-

i want the “sick” UPS driver thoroughly investigated.

And the cops firing 200 rounds is insane.

It was so obvious he had 20 AK-47s on him. He had to be a criminal.

The death penalty for those cops!

Yeah, lets start a shootout in the middle of a busy freeway and kill a couple of innocent people. “For public safety’ after all.

How about this. Back off, track with a helicopter until the truck runs out of gas and the bad guys run. Pick them up then.

As opposed to surrounding then and starting a shootout in the middle of a busy freeway, and killing two innocent people.

This was totally botched.

You assume they will behave the way you want. How about they come across a school bus, hold all the kids hostage, shoot the UPS drive3r to show they are serious, and then demand the helicopter stop following them?

Cops don’t have a crystal ball. Or a lot of time to reflect.

So let’s blame the folks who DID cause it: the violent thugs!

You don’t need a crystal ball to know that taking cover behind innocent people in their vehicles while in the middle of a gun fight is going to end badly.

But you need to compare the outcome of that with any other course of action. I get that two innocent people died. If you let them continue running red lights, a half dozen might have died.

And if they were taking cover behind innocent people in cars, what prevented the innocent people from LEAVING their cars?

In most terminated chases the perps slow down and don’t continue the high speed behavior. With air support and Starchase the bad guys have little chance of escape. Besides a UPS truck isn’t exactly a stealth get away vehicle. Too much adrenaline and poor supervision of the chase.

Hard to know the hypothetical, but my view is always that the cops should do EVERYTHING to avoid having innocent public caught in a crossfire or cause a serious or deadly traffic accident.

These guys hadn’t killed anyone at that point. It was just stuff that they tried to steal. There was already an evidentiary trail at the store. They should have used it and surveillance such as news or police helicopter to get them out of highway and citizen congestion. Anything to avoid the stupid mad shootout and chase that ended with 2 innocents caught in the crossfire.

Any event such as this involving death of innocents and potential reckless police involvement needs not just an investigation by insiders, but a grand jury made up of the public. The police need to be as accountable to public killings as the public itself. The outcome needs to be ultimately in the hands of the public and not just DAs and insiders. It will change behavior.

Odds on the police didn’t know that the UPS driver was even in the truck. From the video, you couldn’t see and that truck was riddled with bullets.

I just hope I am not the only one who sees the problem with that...
