Peloton lost $942million market value in a single day after its holiday advertisement sparked fierce social media backlash.
The exercise equipment company was vilified Monday over the commercial titled 'The Gift That Gives Back', which shows a woman receiving a stationary bike from her husband on Christmas morning. She then documents her year-long fitness journey in a series of selfie clips that she compiles into a thank you video for her husband.
Viewers trashed the ad on Twitter, calling it sexist, misogynistic, humiliating and cringeworthy.
Peloton Interactive Inc's stock fell 9.12 percent on Tuesday, and analysts attributed the drop to negative publicity over the ad.
The decline - which was Peloton's biggest single-day loss since October - erased nearly $942million from the company's market value, bringing its market cap to about $9.4billion, according to Markets Insider.

I guess I’m stuck in the 1950s. Because I saw this ad a few times on TV, and I didn’t see anything wrong with it.
What’s interesting is that the women in both ads you refer to are basically children.
They are recipients of gifts that they are, in one case greedy about and in the other fawningly grateful about, but both of those are sort of childlike reactions.
In the Peloton one, even the kids are enlisted to help give the gift to the spoiled child-mom.
I didn’t see anything wrong with that ad. People are making a negative assumption that their theory is right. Must all be Trump haters.
In the ad, she was fine when she GOT the thing. She didn’t have to “get in shape”.

Peloton’s mistake was showing a loving relationship between a wife and her husband. They should have showed the woman NOT receiving a stationary bike for Christmas. Then have the woman berate her stupid, selfish husband.
Strong, independent woman? Check.
Weak, selfish man? Check.
The PC folks would love it!
