Hey, if someone figures out how to make money off otherwise ordinary people who nevertheless have undiagnosed mild mental illness, more power to 'em.

Faux meat burgers = yuck.
Veggie burgers, OTOH, are delicious. Many great recipes online to choose from.

In the past we have been told not to eat highly processed foods, now we are told to eat highly processed foods.

And why does this “plant based” food taste like meat if meat is bad for you.

All questions yet to be answered. Our Dept is in the process of doing an extensive study comparing the fake meat to beef.

I wouldn’t waste a dime on these burgers. I have tasted some of those supposed veggie burgers. They are a waste of time. A hamburger is a hamburger. Burger King is going to take a big hit on this venture.

Probably soy based. Soy beans and soy byproducts are getting into everything now. Like corn and corn byproducts. Overexposure’s not good long-term. Gonna be more and more people becoming allergic to it, often with digestive or behavioral effects.

The book The Space Merchants (1952) by Frederik Pohl and CM Kornbluth, which is considered classic sci-fi, had a funny concept called “Chicken Little.” It was a wordplay on a classic European folktale about a chicken called Chicken Little (at least in America) that thinks the sky is falling. Anyway, in this case it was a giagantic, cancerous blob of chicken that grew in an underground vat and had to be continuously harvested for food with chainsaws, lest it outgrow its confines:

[Scum-skimming wasn’t hard to learn. You got up at dawn. You gulped a breakfast sliced not long ago from Chicken Little and washed it down with Coffiest. You put on your coveralls and took the cargo net up to your tier. In blazing noon from sunrise to sunset you walked your acres of shallow tanks crusted with algae. If you walked slowly, every thirty seconds or so you spotted a patch at maturity, bursting with yummy carbohydrates. You skimmed the patch with your skimmer and slung it down the well, where it would be baled, or processed into glucose to feed Chicken Little, who would be sliced and packed to feed people from Baffinland to Little America.]
