For now. The article speaks to the future. Besides, some fast-food beef burgers taste pretty bad.

This article has a comparison chart. https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/impossible-burger#nutrition

The Impossible burger is higher in fat, has sugar and carbs, and less protein than real beef. They pack it with vitamins though to make it “healthy”.

I’ll eat the crap if I’m on a space ship where real beef is unavailable. But then I would prefer my protein as a liquid and mix it with some bourbon.

Makes a lot of sense. It’s kind like the way we now get seedless watermelons. The current technology for creating the beef we now buy at the grocery store is very inefficient compared to chicken. That’s why the cheapest bone-in chuck steak is 3x the price of the cheapest chicken parts. The feed conversion ratio for chicken 1.6 lbs of feed for every lb of chicken at the point of harvest. The ratio for beef is 6. The only reason chuck is so cheap is because tongue, ox-tail and filet sell for such a massive premium. If we can grow beef in the lab at anywhere near chicken feed conversion ratios, prices will plunge, and consumption will surge.

They are plant-based, not made from raw plants.

i wonder how tasty people will think lab-cultured “meat” is when they find out that it’s grown from cancer cells:

“Further research will also be needed to confirm or dispel uncertainties over various potential safety issues. Candidate topics for research include the safety of ingesting genetically-modified cell lines, as these lines exhibit the characteristics of a cancerous cell which include overgrowth of cells not attributed to the original characteristics of a population of cultured primary cells”

They are not producing a plant that tastes like meat.

Impossible whopper is very good. You can not tell that it’s not beef. You just can’t.

Impossible Whopper is $5.59

You can get TWO regular Whoppers for $6. A better deal.

The author is confusing two separate tracks. The first is vegan faux beef substitutes. The second is actual meat grown in the lab that is chemically (i.e. DNA-wise) the same as the beef we get from slaughtering a cow. The second will, of course, taste exactly like beef, because that’s what it is. The analogy is to a plant grown from a branch.

Now that’s a good response when attacked by the lib’s. But they’re too stupid to understand it.:-D

Most vegetarians have multiple reasons for not eating meat. (Health, environment, animal cruelty, Etc.) but the fact remains that when the price comes down, it should be cheaper to make meat than actually raise it on the hooves. This is the primary thought of many who want to see this revolution continue.

I personally agree that we should eat what we want. Meat and meat substitute can both compliment a well rounded diet. The reason vegetarians have always sought a meat substitute is that the taste of meat is very important to any meat entree meals and vegetarians have been looking for this breakthrough for a long time.

That’s some scary veggies on that burger. Cut it in half and the lettuce magically isn’t affected by the knife.

If it’s anything like TVP, no thanks. That stuff seriously upsets my stomach.

If they’re tested to be safe for human consumption, I’d be surprised if anyone cares. It would be amusing to finally find a productive use for cancer.
