So I've decided to replace my old desk top.

I have tried to use a lap top and I have tried to use the finger swiping stuff ... and I just don't like them.

I like a mouse and I like a tower with a cup holder and all that.

Now, I suppose I could just get the sound card replaced, but this is an old Compaq CQ5210F PC that has served me well for what I do.

Surf FR, news, listen to the news bites frequently posted as we enter the most fascinating political cycle of all time.

What's out there that serves basic purposes ?

I don't need super memory because all I save is desktop hot links and personal pictures.

Most everything else I'll print out and save as a hard copy.

My favorite price is free, but seriously .... I would think there would be a reasonable desk top for a couple of hundred, but the ones I've seen have names I've never heard of.

Any input would be appreciated. And Jeffrey Epstein didn't commit suicide.

You know you can use a mouse with a laptop and a full keyboard as well.

I’m like you; I don’t make a whole lot of demands on electronics. I picked up a refurbed Dell off Walmart’s website for about $100. Been using it fine now for three years.

Good time to get a new one — ‘tis the season! :D

~~~
I was going to say this.
If it’s not for gaming or any heavy-duty computing, then laptops have plenty of computing power, and the main drawbacks to a laptop (plugging in a mouse, keyboard and larger LED screen) is also it’s positives, because if you have to, you can unplug 4 cords from that laptop (less if you go wireless mouse and KB) and take it with you on trips or even just to another room.
I dunno man.
You could get a USED desktop at that price or a new laptop and the laptops are pretty darned fast.
could probably get 8gb on a laptop at that price.
not on a desktop, even used
It’s GREAT that way.
As for desktops, are they very popular still now that the all in ones are out there?
Frankly, it doesn’t really sound like you need a computer. Why not consider a larger iPad?
I hate PC’s. Too many viruses, too much crap to worry about. Software alone is more than a few hundred.
Buy an iMac. You’ll be good for a decade or more and never worry about viruses again.
That's what I am doing right now. And I have a second full-size monitor hooked to it as well. And, one can always replace a sound card in a desktop.
If you live in an area they cover, check Craigslist. You should be able to get a used PC better than you had for about $25- $50. If not, try Goodwill. People dump older PCs all the time. They basically have no value.
They're absolutely still popular, tons and tons of gamers use and build their own. I'm now on my second build.
Wow! Compaq is to the computer world what Studebaker was to the automotive world. You certainly got your money’s worth!
If you are really down to tyring to find a used PC for $25-$50, the I personally would just try to replace teh sound card. It’s a lot less of a headache than inheriting the problems of some old, used, unknown PC, and trying to configure the operating system how you like it and re-load all the software you like. Sound cards are easy to replace on most PCs. Remove cover, identify old sound card, remove from slot, plug new card into slot, replace cover, and plug in speakers.
Go on eBay or walmart.com and buy a refurbished one. I recently bought a high-end desktop from HP for $299. You would have no idea it was refurbished by the speed it works at.
