You could get a USED desktop at that price or a new laptop and the laptops are pretty darned fast.

I had a set amount of money to spend on a new laptop. Nothing fancy but I was stupid as this new Dell INSPIRON 3000 is sooo slow and it has no number keypad and keyboard doesn’t light up if I need to do some things late at night. My fault, I suppose but when you are limited with regard to finances, you do what you can.
It has 4GB and I have very little on it. It came with McAfee AV but I ended up uninstalling that as it seemed to slow things down even more.
