As a long time fan, I find myself consuming less pro football then ever before. The product is becoming unwatchable. It wasn't always like this. No one knows that a catch is. No one knows what PI is. QB's are off limits because of their brand potential.I fear we're witnessing the death by a thousand cuts in real time. It's turning into my personal salsa nightmare.
Okay, let me explain.
I used to frequent a little Mexican joint here in LA - they had this amazing black salsa. Over time, I noticed the salsa losing it's kick, as if they were watering it down. That downhill trend continued until I stopped consuming it and went elsewhere for a higher quality product. The NFL is becoming that salsa, and I'm consuming less and less.
Let's take a look at the patient's vitals, diagnose 'em, and then deep dive into some of the major symptoms.

They have the right to kneel, I have the right not to watch.
I was a life long Saints fan.
I don’t care about football at all anymore.
Not even college.
I haven’t completely kicked the NFL habit. But watching is down about 90%.
Before the start of every NFL game that is on my TV, I take a knee. I say a prayer and then promptly change the channel.
Im waiting for my Nike deal, but so far nothing has come through.
Monday night(Green Bay vs. Detroit) I was at Buffalo Wild Wings and the place was dead.
Struck up a good conversation with a fellow Trump supporter though.
We were the last ones out of there(after midnight) and didn’t even notice how the game ended.
I skimmed it and no mention of taking the knee. That’s what drove me away. I heard recently they don’t do that anymore? IDK. They lost me.
This is exactly what NASCAR did in the 1990’s and early 2000’s. Changed to rules one by one to favor their chosen personalities.
I haven’t watched a NASCAR race in over 15 years. I haven’t watched the NFL since Crapernick started his trash and am unlikely to return.
It’s running on fantasy football, which is quite a lot of fun for a fan if you get into a good league. I’m not playing fantasy football this year, and my interest is way down. Last weekend was particularly bad. None of the matchups held my interest at all. The off the field stuff was bad enough, but now the product on the field is suffering, too.
NFL = Leftist Democrat scum.
The article touches on one of my favorite conspiracy theories—organized crime gamblers fixing sports games.
We really haven’t heard of any examples in the history of the NFL.
Is that really possible?
I find it hard to believe.
The NFL spends a lot of resources doing damage control on public relations messes. I am almost certain there are a bunch of fixed game gambling skeletons in that closet.
Of course I don’t watch because the NFL went woke—and I hope they now go broke.
It may be disclosure of a gambling scandal that finally puts the nail on the zombie coffin.
Yeah he doesn’t specifically mention “taking a knee”, but he does mention the general behavior.
“How are they contributing to the decline? Poor behavior, endless complaining, social media fails, contract hold outs, trade demands, petulant behavior, refusing to play unless they “get their way”, are not tactics that endear yourselves to fans. Add in protests and personal causes, and it doesn’t matter which side of the conversation you fall on, you alienate portions of the fan base. It’s hard to recall a time when pampered athletes were so arrogant and dismissive of the fans. There will be consequences. remember, no patient can survive death by a thousand cuts.”
I still watch the NFL from time to time. The long term futility of the Browns, the crappy ownership of the Browns, (which is still in place), and the items stated above, (lots of penalties, no clear cut rules, QBs are untouchable), have soured me on the NFL.
For now, college football, almost any college game, even a blowout, is more entertaining.
All forms of entertainment are in decline as segmentation rears its’ head. There are simply a lot of entertainment options out there today.
When the players started trying to be the most noted and not team player the game fell apart...
I think coaching has a lot to do with it...
The Boston coach takes no bs and the team plays as a team..
Players can’t hit, they throw too damn many effing flags, the broadcast rules suck, its too expensive to get the dish for just those games, the stadiums are usually drunken fiascos.
Most teams are out of contention by Halloween, too many commercials.
Too much pink.. I can continue.
Money, money, money
I used to be able to watch a 1 PM game and be done by 3:45 pm. Now its not over until 4:20. That time is ALL taken up with adverts. I just can’t stand it any longer.
And a lot of football fans are into Fantasy Leagues, so they aren’t focusing on one game, they are following all the games that impact their Fantasy team.
