This is exactly what NASCAR did in the 1990’s and early 2000’s. Changed to rules one by one to favor their chosen personalities.

I haven’t watched a NASCAR race in over 15 years. I haven’t watched the NFL since Crapernick started his trash and am unlikely to return.

Their downward spiral actually began before that, IMO...it was the pink gloves...WTH does that have to do with football?

Players can’t hit, they throw too damn many effing flags, the broadcast rules suck, its too expensive to get the dish for just those games, the stadiums are usually drunken fiascos.
Most teams are out of contention by Halloween, too many commercials.
Too much pink.. I can continue.

I feel the same about baseball. I was a life long Yankee fan. In the mid 90’s, either 94’ or 95’, the teams in the World Series went on strike and the game never played. What really got me annoyed was these guys were making great salaries to play a kids game and they left the fans stranded. Haven’t watched a game since.

Like many pro sports organizations, NASCAR was a victim of its own success.

They did such a good job reaching their traditional fan base that their only growth prospects involved attracting new (casual) fans. In order to do that they changed their product in a way that alienated their traditional fans. It worked for a while, but casual fans are -- by definition -- not very loyal at all.

Once the casual fans left, the traditional fans weren't coming back.
