Walking speed can predict a person's risk of killer diseases including dementia - decades before symptoms develop, new research suggests.
The brains and bodies of slow walkers were found to have aged more by the time they were 45 to their speedier counterparts.
Their lungs, teeth and immune systems also tended to be in worse shape than faster moving peers.
What's more, dawdlers can be identified from the age of three using mental agility tests.
The findings could lead to a childhood screening program for Alzheimer's disease and other life threatening conditions.

Great news. I absolutely hate getting caught behind saunterers. I walk as fast as some people jog.
What is their clinical definition of a slow walker?
H’mmm, my walking and running both declined when I was 45. Of course it was helped by blowing out my right knee during an Army PT test, which I did pass. It was my final one before retiring. I could still walk fairly good pace, but it ended my running. And I was proud of my averaging sub-16 minutes for 2 miles before that incident.
Same here. Life’s too short to dawdle.
Sounds like a seinfeld episode.
I’ve always been a fast walker. At 55 I haven’t lost a step (or, at least I don’t think I have!)
I hate slow walkers.
If I could Id b* slap everyone of them as I overtake
Seems to me that doesn’t qualify since the attribute can be found early on.
Yeah, but since you are a midget, your shorter legs take you just as long to get there.
If I am in a hurry, I’ll take a car. If I die earlier, at least I wasn’t miserable rushing around.
However, this does allow for a nice comparison of DJT vs. Mrs. Clinton.
For what purpose? So you can get to your sofa for your afternoon nap sooner?
I think I was about 45 when I tore my Achilles tendon It took 10 years to fully heal. My mental abilities must be OK, I wrote and published a physics text last year. I’m in my mid-70s, and I am not as spry as when I was younger.
How slow do they consider a slow walker?
I woke up one day, and found I was old. Just happened that way.
Overweight people walk slower.
Oh great, something else to medically bracketed by.
Imagination gallops; judgment merely walks.
Get shot in the leg and lose 25% of the thigh muscle when you’re 18 and you’ll be walking slowly 40 years later, guaranteed. Things like that never improve mobility with time passing. Anyone walking behind me griping at my speed can bite me lolol.
At 40 I walk slow on purpose to keep an eye out for change on the ground. You’d be surprised how much change people drop. Otherwise I walk fast.
