Metallica says its frontman James Hetfield has entered rehab, and the band is canceling its upcoming tour in Australia and New Zealand.
Three of the heavy metal bands members posted a statement on Twitter Friday announcing the decision and apologizing to fans. [ ]
The statement didnt elaborate, but the bands members said they appreciate fans understanding and support of the 56-year-old Metallica co-founder.

General/chat is correct, because this is clearly not Breaking News
Nonsense on both counts.
No one I’ve known has ever “celebrated” that kind of behavior. Generalize much?
But everyone I know despises the rap/hiphop “culture” of violence toward women and police.
Care to debate the point? Give me 10 seconds to gather up a few of Calvin Broadus’ clever little rhymes...
Yes....it’s a human tragedy to have to do what you love, for a living.
Having to face those blurred crowds, and sing and play songs that you don’t even have to learn, must be backbreaking.
Gimme a flipping break!!
As another poster mentioned....this is quite selfish....taking earnings out of his group’s and entourage hands....because of his habit (drinking).
(If you were being sarcastic, my apologies.)
Enter Rehab Man.
Better than a funeral for him or anyone on the road.
I generally hate metal music but certainly make an exception for this one. The spectacle of this song in front of hundred of thousands of people after the fall of the Soviet Union still gives me goose bumps.

But they are constantly touring. Too many temptations on the road.
I hope he gets better, he’s actually one of the more conservative Rockers out there.
James Hatfield has a net worth estimated at 300 million and can afford the best treatment available. He would be much happier with that money if he was in control of his life.
You reminded me of the death of their bassist Cliff Burton now, back in 1986. Not a drug-related death, but it was on the road (or possibly was, since the band had decided to travel on tour buses in icy weather while in Sweden and who knows what overrode common sense to make them do that).
Oh geez, lol!
Cliff!!!
At least he is doing it
Few people do unless you’ve been there. Many years ago I spent my 60th birthday on South Padre Island with Origins Recovery, haven’t had a drink since. Alcoholism has no respect for age, color, money or education. I suspect there are more alcoholics/abusers out there that are unwilling to admit it than those that have and get treatment/help.
Ironically a lot of the metal guys are really conservvative/patriotic
The best treatment available, in my opinion, is the love of his son.
“I kind of got sick of the Bay Area, the attitudes of the people there, a little bit. They talk about how diverse they are, and things like that, and it’s fine if you’re diverse like them. But showing up with a deer on the bumper doesn’t fly in Marin County. My form of eating organic doesn’t vibe with theirs.”
-James Hetfield
IMHO, James needs to quit music for awhile.
He’s got money, he’s got other interests outside of music, why keep yourself in that toxic environment?
