Eddie Money, the prolific singer and songwriter whose songs Baby Hold On, Two Tickets to Paradise, Shakin' and Take Me Home Tonight soundtracked popular music in the 1980s, died Friday (Sept. 13). He was 70.
A statement provided by his family reads: The Money Family regrets to announce that Eddie passed away peacefully early this morning. It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to our loving husband and father. We cannot imagine our world without him. We are grateful that he will live on forever through his music.
Money recently revealed that he had been diagnosed with stage 4 esophageal cancer.
A reality television series about Money and his family, Real Money, had aired on AXS TV starting in April 2018. It chronicled his life at home and with his family, revealing his health struggles.
Money made his home in the Bay Area where he performed at the citys clubs regularly. A star of MTVs formative years, during which he starred in a series of comedic music videos, he saw major chart success with such songs as Baby Hold On and Two Tickets to Paradise and in 1986 Take Me Home Tonight, a duet with Ronnie Spector, which was a radio hit. He was signed to Columbia Records and released 11 albums throughout his career.
Cause of death Esophageal Cancer.........................
He did a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem at a NASCAR race I attended years ago in Fontana. RIP Eddie, thanks for the great music.
Great guy.
“Was a NY city cop at one time IIRC.”
His grandfather, father, and brother were members of the New York City Police Department and he himself was an NYPD trainee for a period of time.
He managed to stay working, not always easy for a singer past his prime. RIP
My first date with my wife was seeing Eddie Money at Monmouth College.
Had the chance to meet him and his band back in 1984ish.
They played in Ft. Wayne Indiana, and walked into the Marriot after the show. They took over for the band that was playing that night, got up on stage and did a set. I offered to buy him a drink and he declined.
I heard later he quit alcohol, but had a coke habit.
I believe his father was a NY cop.
RIP.
Was he related to Creflo Dollar?
Dang this one is tough. I didn't realize how good he was and how much I enjoyed his music when I was young till I got a best of CD and the kids starting digging it as I played it in the car. He was always a part of FM Rock mixes in the 80's & 90's, especially for those of us that worked nights, solid if you will the DJ's knew it, he was always in the background. In one of my online mixes the other night I got a few of his including "Trinidad" which has some amazing guitar rifs.....
RIP
Another Eddie, Eddie Haskell (the real-life actor, though, not the character) was supposedly an LAPD officer for a while.
If their kids had married, it would have been the Dollar-Money wedding (or vice versa).
Oh, NO! I knew he was sick, but this came so swiftly. RIP, Eddie. Prayers up for you and your family. This is truly a dark day......................
Yep, late 80’s, my buddy and I spent the day riding my jet skis, grilled a couple steaks, and drank a bunch of brewskis, and went to the show. Seems so long ago now though, doesn’t it?
Rest in peace Eddie.
I recall a story from a former radio colleague of mine, also passed away recently, who said that Eddie was what they call an ‘easy interview’. You can ask him a question, get up from your seat, go out of the studio, go to the bathroom, get a cup of coffee, drink the coffee, go back into the studio, and Eddie would still be going on about the same question you asked him. The guy liked to tell stories.
