New York plans to deal with its rat problem by drowning them in booze
CNN ^ | September 6, 2019 | Rob Picheta

No trip to the Big Apple is complete without a few quintessentially New York experiences: grabbing a gigantic slice of NYC-style pizza; strolling across Brooklyn Bridge on a clear morning; and, of course, coming face-to-toe with a cat-sized rat on the subway.

But that last time-honored tradition has vexed city planners for centuries, with rodents blighting New York City's tunnels, streets and businesses for as long as the city has existed.

Now, at last, a radical solution may be at hand: the city plans to entice the creatures with bait before drowning them in a bucket of alcohol.

Two years ago, I was under a ranch house N of Glen Rose (Texas y'all).

John Graves lived on this property when he writing his novels.

He tended a vineyard and made his own wine.

In the crawl space were 17 cases of his wine, bottles on their sides. The rodents chewed the corks for the wine to drip out and drink.

The more fancy bottles had screw caps that corroded out and leaked out for the critters to drink. They also had chew marks.

NYC may have a problem with rats going for alcohol.

Belle Delphine is WAY ahead of NYC:

Delphine has once again gone viral with the addition of a product to her storefront. “GamerGirl Bath Water” is exactly what it sounds like: the remains of what Delphine uses to clean herself.

It works for snails...attract them with beer and they drown in it. Less messy than stepping on them.

I still think the best answer is to import some of those big unwanted snakes that Florida is trying to get rid of. Turn them loose in the sewers.

Idiots. Don’t they know that rats and mice can be killed with carbonated beverages? Rats and such cannot belch and they explode

I think that is unlikely .

They can try, but typically the word gets out pretty quick and traps lose their effectiveness.

Nice trap. These days they put a ‘bittering agent’ in anti-freeze to keep pets from being attracted to it. Your concept still may work, though, if the smell hasn’t been altered much (not sure on that).
