The process of jury selection in the Amber Guyger murder case is expected to span at least a week.
It was September 6, 2018, when then Dallas Police Department Officer Amber Guyger shot and killed Botham Jean.
She told police she mistook his apartment for hers, as she lived one floor below, and thought he was an intruder.
She was later fired from the police department and charged with murder.
The judge has cast a wide net for potential jurors in this trial, more than anyone can remember.
About 4,000 Dallas County citizens have been summoned to appear Friday morning as the jury selection process gets underway.
The former officer, now defendant, Amber Guyger, her legal team, and prosecutors will be in the central jury room at Frank Crowley Courthouse as the process of picking the jurors to weigh the evidence in this trial begins.

But if she is overcharged doesn’t that improve her chances of acquittal? I’m not taking a position either way. Seems to me it’s just a tragedy all around.
This is another case of deliberate over charging. The jury will not convict on murder and will not be allowed to convict of manslaughter. It classifies the outrage community, and then allows her to go free.

Depends on the facts, which are seldom reported correctly by the media and all the facts are purposely never given to the media by the authorities.
Off hand, my home is my castle. It’s my safe house. The only way a cop or a criminal can legally enter is by knocking or with a proper search warrant. I know this cop thought she was in her apartment, but being a cop she is expected to know the difference between little things such as what is hers and what belongs to someone else.
Unless the building was 100% brand new and all hallways, doors and everything is 100% identical, then she should have known better. There are things like scratches, paint chips and other wear items around the door handle and door area that are exclusive only to her apartment. She is paid to be observant. Another dead giveaway would be the apartment number or occupants name on or near the door. And as a cop you’d think arresting someone has priority over killing them, your apartment or not.
So what possible motives could there be for intended murder? The victim lived immediately above the cop. Did the victim play loud music, stomp on the floor or do something else that would agitate the cop? Things like this will come out in the trial.
Before I became a home owner, I lived in an apartment community for years. During those years, not only did I have multiple instances of other residents trying to get in to my apartment (you could hear them insert their key), there were a few times when I wasn’t as attentive as normal, and walked into another apartment not my own. It really can be surreal how exactly the same every building is, inside and out.
So, I believe her excuse, but that doesn’t excuse the cold blooded homicide. I feel bad for the dead guy.

My first apartment had no sound insulation. The front and back doors were hollow wood interior doors. Just by ordinary living we irritated each other. Then, there was the occasional loud party or loud music. You either get used to it or you move. I moved as soon as I could afford to.
If someone is really thoughtless or purposely irritatingly loud then your only choice was to move. I have met people like this, an alcoholic drug user lived in our building, but fortunately, I wasn’t close. I don’t know that he purposely irritated people, but once he was drunk and high, he was also loud. He was a drafter where I worked. Sometimes he would blow his nose by holding one side and blowing the other towards a trash can. Occasionally, he hit the can.
Prosecutors play games like this when they have to go through a trial, but don't really want a conviction.
It should be up to the jury to decide whether it was murder, manslaughter, or whatever.
She makes stupid look smart.
I suspect there’s more their history than just neighbors.
