There have been books written about the possibility of demons pretending to be all sorts of mythical creatures of folklore.

Thousands of years ago, to simple country folk, they appeared as fairies and goblins.

To modern “high tech” humans, aliens in spacecraft.

No reason why they cannot tailor their deceptions to the current level of culture, as long as they manage to deceive.
