Are these companies hired by the customer or by the vendor? If by the restaurant then it is their own problem. If by the customer then it is a real problem.

No, the driver's pay is tied to delivery TIME. The restaurant screwing around means that he loses money.

What if the driver is late?

The driver faces direct monetary loss if he’s forced to wait. They are doing the restaurant a favor by staying. If it were me I’d leave then and there.

The driver simply is not being paid for his time. Put yourself in that position and waiting a half hour.

Third party food delivery is a bad business. Because of my semi-remote location, I use these services from time to time and they’re rarely timely and always too expensive.

That’s a whole different story.

Of course the customers can always separate the bullshit by looking at the app.

There are quite a few businesses larger than that that have never made a profit.

I have to wonder about how these business models sell to investors.

” Because of my semi-remote location, I use these services from time to time and they’re rarely timely and always too expensive.”

Maybe it’s your location?

Oh look.

The airhead who thinks people who ride motorcycles are really all drug dealers who should be hunted down renders a thought on the forums.

Still waiting for that evidence to appear that will produce a conviction of one of the biker victims of the Waco massacre? You insisted they were all guilty.

And the evidence showed...

...the evidence showed that the balistics and video footage was too damaging to the government to ever be released to the defense (which Texas requires for a legal trial) during discovery.

I’m really upset whenever you agree with me. Because who you are has become well known on this forum.

“The driver faces direct monetary loss if he’s forced to wait.”

That’s part of the risk the driver takes for doing the job. He can always refuse to accept orders from that particular pizza place.

I just don’t understand the folks on this thread who think the restaurant is at fault or liable for the delay. Obviously none have a concept of how a commercial kitchen operates.

I answered your assertion.
In a fully deserved manner.

Your support of unconstitutional shenanigans that resulted in the death of a bunch of citizens attending a political meeting is something that now defines you on this site.

Maybe you could hide who you revealed yourself to be with a name change.

Why on earth would ANYONE use such a service?
It’s bad enough to tust strangers to prepare your food. But to trust an unaccountable stranger to deliver it?

Asking for trouble, and spit on your burger.

Perhaps you should watch the video ...

You would think so, but occasionally the local pizza place has its own delivery person and the price and service is much much better when they do.

How are drivers paid? By the hour; are they getting docked for down time waiting for orders?

Your assumption is completely wrong. On-demand delivery drivers are not getting paid by the hour. They put the amount delivery drivers get paid into something that is recognizable which is an hourly wage. That wage is averaged. Drivers only get paid for the delivery portion This doesn’t count the drive to the restaurant and the wait. The clock doesn’t start ticking until the food, bagged, in the driver’s hands and s/he starts their delivery run. So the longer the wait the less time the driver makes per hour. Once the delivery is made, the clock stops and once again the driver waits for the next order to be picked up and the process is repeated. In reality, the driver usually gets paid by the time it takes to make the delivery, the mileage and a base rate. The company with the app takes a good chunk out of that for the use of the app. The driver gets what is left.

On demand delivery service is not like a pizza delivery where those drivers get paid by the hour plus tips. I refuse to do UBER Eats because of this. I tried it once. Had a 17 minute, unpaid, drive to the specific restaurant, McDonalds. Waited 45 minutes, unpaid, for the food. Put into the phone the food was picked up and delivered it. I got paid 3.45 for that delivery and no tip. No I did not steal a french fry.

Ignorance is bliss sometimes, but stupidity will never be curable.
