Civil unrest in Puerto Rico forces multiple cruise ships to alter routes

Royal Caribbean canceled stops in San Juan on at least two of its cruises, affecting passengers on Empress of the Seas and Harmony of the Seas. Some passengers took to Twitter to complain, while others praised the cruise line for taking the safety of their passengers so seriously.

Residents in Puerto Rico, still struggling from damage caused by Hurricane Maria, are calling for the resignation of Gov. Ricardo Rossello after the release of approximately 889 pages of private messages in which he allegedly used homophobic and misogynistic language, Newsweek reported.

In a statement to Fox News, a spokesperson for Royal Caribbean commented on the latest cancellation, saying, “Due to the ongoing civil unrest in San Juan, Puerto Rico, we have canceled Harmony of the Seas’ call to San Juan. Harmony will now sail to St. Maarten, her next scheduled port of call. Concern for the safety and wellbeing of our guests and crew members is our top priority.”

[Rosselló became involved in politics during the 2008 Puerto Rico gubernatorial election, when his father Pedro Rosselló lost a party primary against the eventual Governor Luis Fortuño. Rosselló was a Hillary Clinton delegate to the 2008 nominating convention and an Obama delegate to the 2012 convention. In 2008, he had a key role in Clinton’s get-out-the-vote efforts for the June 1 Puerto Rico presidential primary, appearing in her final TV ad with several Democratic political leaders, including fellow statehooder Kenneth McClintock and commonwealth’s Roberto Prats and José A. Hernández Mayoral.[13]]

Silly me.....

Here I thought they'd be doing that for mishandling and misappropriating hurricane disaster relief funds and not getting repairs done quickly enough after Hurricane Maria because of political corruption.

But on no, he said bad (non-PC) things.

The horror......

That’s just the headline writer’s view. Puerto Ricans are actually protesting against the fact that the guy has been engaged in blatant theft for years and also has enacted policies that are bringing PR to true Third World conditions. His emails contained the details (as well as a few gross insults against his opponents or even against his allies).

It's not their money. It's mostly mainland US money which keeps PR going.

Welfare in Puerto Rico:

According to the Consolidated Federal Funds Report compiled by the U.S. Census Bureau, Puerto Rico has received more than $21 billion annually in federal aid from the United States.[1] A substantial portion of this amount is earmarked for public welfare, including funding educational programs (such as Head Start), subsidized housing programs (such as (Section 8 and public housing projects), and a food stamp system called the Nutrition Assistance for Puerto Rico program.

Let that sink in. $21 Billion per year, to a place with a population of 3 million people.

The Allure of the Seas docked in San Juan this morning on a port call. It’s immediately back to business down here.

I did say that someone tongue in cheek.

I know enough to not believe the media.

They want to make it about that as if homophobia and sexism is what the people are protesting, but honestly considering their living conditions, I’m sure that’s not even on THEIR radar.

Lol! Yes, that’s true! Somehow the media will always find a way to bring it back to gays or the SJW cause of the moment and deflect from whatever socialist freak is really responsible for the source of the protests. You’re right - this probably never crossed the minds of the protestors.

Here’s the really fun part- The governor of PR is a big Hillary and Obama supporter. You’ll never see that in the media though.
