A 22-year old college student, just a month into a job at Disney World, was paralyzed and nearly killed after being struck by a drunken driver.

Gabby Murillo was stopped at a red light near Orlando on June 15 when the driver hit her from behind at full speed, causing her vehicle to slam into a concrete wall.

The driver of the other vehicle was ticketed for careless driving with serious bodily injury, according to the police report.

Okay, there seems to be a full-court press of media articles about the young woman and her injuries and fund raising. Other reports note the drunk driver fled and then was arrested. I JUST SPENT NEARLY 30 MINUTES SEARCHING FOR IDENTITY OF THE DRIVER AND MORE INFO ON TICKET OR ARREST AND CANNOT FIND ANYTHING. Not a word about who the driver was. Nothing. Very odd. Anybody read about this and have more details?

My thought is that the drunk driver was either an illegal alien or a public or well-known person.

“The driver of the other vehicle was ticketed for careless driving with serious bodily injury, according to the police report.”

Was he actually ticketed for drunk driving? Should be attempted manslaughter.

Sad. Aside from the Disney Is Evil angle, I imagine a lot of 22-year-olds (and their parents) would be pretty darn excited by an internship at Disney. So young, with so many possibilities before her, and now this happens.

I’ll go out on a limb and speculate that Juan Valdez here has probably been deported 2-3 times already and may disappear before a court day.

"He actually fled the scene. The cops, luckily, were able to catch him." As shared by Gabby's sister. Nothing in media about the drunk driver. Even after fleeing seen, was he just ticketed as most reports say?

Hit and run has become a tradition in Orlando. Seems that every week there are one or two usually involving a fatality. Drivers, pedestrians, motorcyclists— nobody is safe.

So they weren't charged with DUI?

I lived in Orlando for 18 months when I was in the Navy. I am utterly baffled that people spend thousands of dollars to vacation there. The place is a dump, not impressed. Same goes for Virginia Beach. For anybody who thinks that place is great, my condolences, you must’ve had a rough childhood.

I didn’t have any luck finding any info on the perp, either.

Now I’m really curious....

Title says "drunken driver" but the article never mentions this. It only saysL

"The driver of the other vehicle was ticketed for careless driving with serious bodily injury, according to the police report."

So the person that fled the scene while drunk only gets a ticket?

They could get a BAC on the perp pretty quick. If the perp was high, might take longer for the test/s to come back. Since the perp hasn’t been charged yet, either the results haven’t come back, the perp has some juice, or the perp is in the wind.

DUI will get you deported.

If he left the scene, he can say he got drunk, afterwards.

And the fact that the family is trying to raise money to pay for medical costs, etc. leads me to believe that the driver has no insurance or any source of money. Consistent with an illegal immigrant, or some other low-life.

Yep. Let me guess, his 10 minute run “burned off enough alcohol that he was under the limit, so he couldn’t be charged”.

Paralyzed from the neck down. Damn.

Buy me one of these wheelchairs I can use with a straw and I'll use it to wheel myself into a lake or in front of a train. I can't imagine a worse hell on earth.

“...Paralyzed from the neck down....”

Rephrasing ... 22 YEARS OLD and paralyzed from the neck down.

This f*cker should have his balls kicked into jelly for doing this that poor kid.

In a better world, with better people, he’d be a dead man walking.

Bad guy likely either an illegal alien, likely, or a persecuted minority who’s identity would violate the AP style book rules......

I’d hire a hitman to take out the driver. What worse could the State do to me, if I was already paralyzed from the neck down?
