Not to spoil your summer pool fun, but outbreaks of "crypto," a swimming-related diarrheal illness, are on the rise, according to a new report.
From 2009 to 2017, there were nearly 450 outbreaks of crypto (short for cryptosporidiosis) reported in the U.S., which resulted in more than 7,400 illnesses, according to the report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). What's more, outbreaks of the illness which is caused by a hardy parasite called Cryptosporidium increased 13 percent per year over the eight-year study period, the authors said.
Cryptosporidium causes profuse, watery diarrhea that can last up to three weeks, according to the CDC. The parasite is the leading cause of outbreaks tied to recreational water use, such as swimming in pools and lakes. The organism is protected by an outer shell that allows it to survive even in chlorinated water for up to 10 days or more.
People can become infected with the parasite after swallowing contaminated water from swimming pools, lakes or rivers, the CDC said. Among the 444 crypto outbreaks reported from 2009 to 2017, 35 percent were tied to exposure to treated swimming pools, the report found. These outbreaks tended to peak in the months of June through August.

I’m sure also little baby special snowflakes who don’t want to be bothered getting out of the pool or lake, etc., to use the bathroom.

Because America needs more parasite ridden parasites!
A friend who was a lifeguard way back said illegals and the poor use public pools as their bath/shower/toilet, and was so bad in the summer that the health department routinely had pools closed, drained, and refilled due to sewer-level fecal coliform counts.
True that!
I'll take my chances with the sharks. .
Sorry, give me an old fashioned swimming hole first. I grew up swimming in farm ponds and country rivers, and never had a sick day once in decades of summers.
Though there is no such thing as a urine-detecting dye, you can purchase signs that prey upon the misconception that a urine indicator exists. The signs, which warn the pool is being monitored with a chemical “wee alert,” are believed to be an effective deterrent against urination in a pool, particularly with adult swimmers.
Thanks for that warning! Sound advice. And FRiends, while we’re at remember ‘’jmacusa’s’’ number 1 rule when it comes to objects that fall to Earth from space: NEVER, EVER poke ANYTHING from space with a stick. Don’t believe me? Well, watch the movie “The Blob’’’ and you’ll see why. Now back to our regular reading here on Free republic.
