I see what you did there.
You know what creates hardships?
It’s the unions, the state regulators, federal regulators, minimum wage laws, lawsuit happy citizens run amok, lack of torte reform, people not willing to work and/or pass a drug test, others who think manual labor beneath them...
Do you see the Amish anywhere on that list?
Cuz I don’t.
The government used to make enough money on tariffs to run the government. I have more government than I can afford. They use highway funds to build bike paths that no one uses. They have spent by an old count $13.4T of Social Security funds that was not theirs and blame baby boomers for the shortage.
They are exempt from the draft but were happy to have their religious freedom here while other Americans had to die for it.
If all Americans were as smart and thrifty as the Amish & Mennonites, this nation would not be $22 TRILLION in debt. It is a shame that the government can deduct such a huge chunk out of a worker’s paycheck.
If every taxpayer had to fork over a lump-sum payment for his taxes, government spending would never have reached this obscene level.
No I don’t see the Amish on that list but if they were they would just be another add on.....does that make sense “if” they were on the list.
As a working man I would see them as another hurdle.
Expecting a deep philosophical reply, I admitted I didn't know.
“It's to give the Amishman a ride to work...”
The only practical option I’ve seen for non-Amish / Mennonites are health sharing ministries that offer lower health insurance costs than other providers, and they don’t cover crap like abortions and sex changes.
I agree with conscientious objection from fighting in war, but that should not exempt a person from being right beside the fighting soldiers as medics.
“If all Americans were as smart and thrifty as the Amish & Mennonites”
The Amish have many positive traits...
Most have a good work ethic (But not all)
Most are thrifty, but some are not.
Most are generous, but some carry it greedy.
As mentioned earlier, they are very diverse.
I work extensively with many horse & buggy Amish & Mennonite communities.
This is so spot-on. 6 guys pull up in a $60,000 truck with an 18 year old kid driving. I have seen it many times working on new construction projects in Chester County, Pennsylvania. People envision the Amish using hand tools, but they use all modern power tools.
Exactly...
In order to use the truck on the highway and to work as contractors they purchase insurance. In order to qualify for the IRS 4020 exemption they are not allowed to purchase public insurance based upon religious beliefs.
The IRS has pretty much closed the exemption except to current existing groups, many whom are extended family churches.
Sorry for typo
IRS 4029 exemption
They are legitimately exempt from those taxes and taxes being the competitive difference is not a legitimate beef. Privately yes, but not politically or legally.
Here is a cut & paste from the exemption form..
“I am conscientiously opposed to accepting benefits of any private or public insurance that makes payments in the event of death, disability, old age, or retirement; or makes payments for the cost of medical care; or provides services for medical care.
Public insurance includes any insurance system established by the Social Security Act.
I request that I be exempted from paying social security and Medicare taxes on my earnings from self-employment under Internal Revenue Code section 1401 and from the employers share of social security and Medicare taxes under Internal Revenue Code section 3111. I further request exemption from the employees share of social security and Medicare taxes under Internal Revenue Code section 3101, for my services as an employee whenever I am employed by an employer who has an identical exemption from social security and Medicare taxes.
I waive all rights to any social security payment or benefit under Titles II and XVIII of the Social Security Act. I understand and agree that no benefits or other payments of any kind under Titles II and XVIII of the Social Security Act will be paid based on my wages and self-employment income to any other person.
I certify that I have never received benefits or payments under the above titles, nor has anyone else received these benefits based on my earnings. “
Social Security is not Insurance, you have no right to benefits nor claim on what you paid in.
SCOTUS: Heverling, Nestor et al
4029 to avoid SS taxes is a farce.
Social Security is a payroll tax spent as General Revenue.
Religious claims to avoid/control general taxes are all over the country.
It is unconstitutional to offer a tax benefit to one religion and not all religions.
Totally agree..
Social Security is not a retirement program. It is a tax that is tied to funding a welfare program.
