Why Are There So Many Tornadoes Right Now?
Earther ^ | May 31, 2019 | Brian Kahn

This has been a spring of angry weather across the U.S. as heat, flooding, and hail pummel the eastern half of the country. But along with the garden variety suffering, devastating tornadoes have also spread across the U.S. from Texas to Pennsylvania.

Twisters have ripped through communities across the U.S., killing at least three in Missouri last week, injuring nearly 100 on Monday in Ohio, and upending thousands of people’s lives. On Thursday, nearly 78 million Americans still faced increased odds of tornadoes touching down, according to the Storm Prediction Center, including major metro areas like New York, Washington, D.C., and Nashville.

There is some research suggesting that these types of tornado outbreaks could become more common as climate change destabilizes the atmosphere. Signs that the rapid warming in the Arctic is messing with the jet stream are also a cause for concern. But attributing individual tornado outbreaks—let alone individual twisters—to climate change is still largely in the realm of highly speculative research. That’s not to say climate change doesn’t play a role in severe weather outbreaks like this one, but rather that scientists still have a lot to learn to firm up those connections. But there are clear indications that natural climate shifts did help shape this outbreak that researchers have been watching for weeks.

When there are only a few, nobody says anything, so you can shut up about them now.

Sometimes there are more, sometimes less. That’s how weather works. There is no “why.”

Or, why were there so few in the previous 10 years? Answer for both: climate change!

Two choices. CLIMAGEDDON OR PDJT. I know it’s a tough question. Guessin’ the lame stream think PDJT is doing more damage. :-)

Every bad weather event is now blamed on global warming.

And Trump gets some blame too, because he pulled out of the Paris agreement on global warming.

Yes that’s right, weather would be nicer, if only Trump had kept us in the Paris agreement. That’s what the Enviro extremist types think.

Correct.

The Earth is cooling due to lack of sunspot activity.

Gee, woulda thunk the Sun controls Earth temperatures?

It is called weather.

I hate comments like “angry weather”... The weather does not have emotion. It just is...

Lpook at those weasel words. “Cause for concern” “plays a role” “clear indications” “helps”

That is NOT how science works.

If something “plays a role” science must DEFINE that role and explain the causality.

I don’t know what is more frustrating — people who nothing about science opining on the subject, or people who also know nothing about science comparing legitimate science such as TToE to AGW.

If AGW was science there would be ONE model and it would be predictive.

Period.

Anybody remember the Jarrell, Texas tornado back in the mid 90’s? Tornado was so powerful that it ripped the pavement up. Took nearly 2 feet of topsoil. No matter how bad it is this spring, check historic records of past weather. There is nothing new under the sun.
