Along with the investment, Ford confirmed that it will use Rivians electric platform to develop a Ford-branded all-electric vehicle.
Last year, we took a close look at Rivians electric platform, which the startup claims enable a range of up to 400 miles.
Rivian was already using Ford F-150 pickups as test mules to test its powertrain for its own R1T pickup, but the two companies confirmed that the vehicle they are partnering on is not an electric F-150.

Yea, and theyre all running off old deep cycle marine batteries too.
Tech is changing almost daily now. Fast charging Batteries, super caps, whatever; some entitys gonna crack it. And when they do, everything is going to change - again. The future is always tomorrow, but sometimes, today catches up with it. Briefly, Until tomorrow takes us further down the road.
EVs = boutique niche market
No disagreement, but the market is changing quickly.
“8 hour recharge times? EV are automotive devolution. Less range and long recharge times = no convenience at all.”
Clearly, you are a man of destiny, always on the go.
Best for you to stay with your BMW, but they too are going EV.
350KW chargers are in the works. Porsche says its Mission E will be able to recharge 250 miles in about 15 minutes.
Tesla has a 250KW supercharging station in the works. The Model 3 will able to take advantage of the faster stations when deployed. Older S and X models won't be able to charge any faster than they do now. Tesla is converting the S and X models to the new battery tech. Tesla says 75 miles in 5 minutes for the new superchargers.
Will EV’s come with wool blankets for winter driving when the batteries run low? EV’s are fair weather boutique machines designed for rich Californians.

What good is it if you can go 200mph but have to sit at a charging station for 2 hours ?
A friend that runs a drag car, would be very excited to see 200MPH!
With checking the car and fueling and setting in line it can easily take 2 hours between runs!
For 200MPH I think he would make the trade.
And rest assured, he cares nothing about alleged climate change.
Thanks!

Not sure hot to break this to you easily?
Duntov died.
It is over.
i like my infernal combustion engines
It gets very cold in parts of California.
Now, Virginia has a very nice climate for an EV and a man of means such as yourself.
Quit dragging your feet and enjoy the sweet, quiet and fast ride.

Not a problem.
You can ease your way over to an EV by starting with a nice Hybrid.
PS:
I love my wife’s Prius V!
An amazing display of technology.
The Rivian truck with the 400 mile range sells for $90,000.00.
One with a lesser range costs $70,000.00
UCANSEE2 posted the 200mph statement, I was responding.
The photo looks like most days on the Chicago freeway system, and I have way too much experience with it.
NB: EV’s maximize energy use in bad traffic.
Regen works!
So?
Most everything has a demand curve.
Have you looked at the Ford 150 Limited lately?
That’s Houston’s, actually, but yeah, any major metro area that’s what it looks like.
I realize that EV’s “shut down” in stop and go traffic, but in Houston, having the AC, radio, butt coolers (like seat warmers, but, ya know, to cool it off), etc. running will take a LOT of juice. Not to mention that the Houston heat and humidity will play hell with the recharge time, and life expectancy of the battery. My understanding of thermodynamics is minimal at best, but I’ve taken to believe that heat and humidity tend to make batteries last a shorter amount of time than the cooler, dryer weather of say, Chicago.
First, let me assure you that northern Illinois can have excess humidity. OK, not like Houston.
As far as temperature, if you are comfortable, your battery is also happy. Yes, they can deal with 140F, but like most of us, performance drops.
My USMC son saw it 130F in Iraq, and they moved slowly.
I’ve never seen anything about battery performance in high humidity?
Thanks DUMBGRUNT. Ford was up $1.02 on Friday.
