The marble steps Jesus is believed to have climbed before being sentenced to crucifixion have been unveiled after 300 years.

The Scala Santa, or Holy Staircase, had been encased in protective maple wood since 1723 in a bid to protect the steps from years of use.

But it has since been stripped back and restored with pilgrims now flocking to see the sacred steps. Three small bronze crosses are embedded in the marble and there are spots some believe are stained by Christ's blood.

They look beautiful but somewhat dangerous to walk on considering the obvious heavy usage. I still remember how slippy it was to walk on the stairs of St. Mark’s in Venice.

I was at the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem. Some old person fell down the stairs needing medical attention. Stairs there are slippery, steep, and jammed with people.

The steps have no religious import, pagan or otherwise; they are material objects not persons. They are neither good nor bad, neither pagan nor Christian. What can be pagan are religious attitudes. Religious ATTITUDES, like the veneration of relics are no different than what pagans were taught.

Would be interesting to see if any of the dust from those stairs are embedded in the Shroud; microscopic dust from that area were found in the Shroud.

Then we have Catholics kneeling before a statue and praising the entity it represented in the unseen world, beseeching such for Heavenly help, and making offerings to them, and giving glory and titles and ascribing supernatural attributes to such which are never given in Scripture to created beings (except to false gods), including having the uniquely Divine power glory to hear and respond to virtually infinite numbers of prayers individually addressed to them.

The Catholic manner of "adulation" can indeed constitute worship in Scripture (Words for worship in the NT), yet Catholics imagine that by playing word games then they can avoid crossing the invisible line between mere "veneration" and worship.

And despite the Spirit inspiring the recording of about 200 prayers in the Bible, and of this being a most basic practice, the only prayers or offerings in Scripture to anyone else in Heaven is by pagans, including to the only Queen of Heaven see therein, by souls who were as adamant as many Catholics in defending their practice:
