When your friend's book is published, please let me know; that'll be a "MUST HAVE" book!
great movie about fosse

I remember when she was Gonzo’s (Gregory Harrison) love interest on the TV series, “Trapper John, MD”. The age difference was a big deal in the story line, but she was gorgeous.
He directed Broadway plays, not just movies, and if you had bothered to read the article/knew anything at all about Fosse, you would know that his direction “made” the movie CABERET, which is when he was called “the greatest direct...”!
That’s a great movie, Schieder was a better Fosse than the guy in the T.V. series, IMO, and yes, I’ve been told that it was a pretty accurate movie.
Saw a commericial at that time that clained "Whatever Lola Wants - Abbey Rents"
Whose Got the Pain from Damn Yankees.
I’ll you know when the book is published.
oh my goodness, she had a little thing w/Danny Kaye? the rumor I’ve always heard is that Danny had a little thing with Laurence Olivier!
I think that Kaye/Olivier thing is false - at least from people who knew Olivier. Kaye could be quite a womanizer.
Thanks...I REALLY want that book!
A direct copy.
I would love to see this but no cable. I’ll have to keep an eye out for other sources.
Love Lola! A little brains...a little talent...
Yes, I acknowledged Cabaret was a great film. And Liza’s singing, Joel Gray’s acting and Fosse’s choreography both overshadowed the directing, which didn’t get an oscar nomination. He was always a much better choreographer than director on stage. Fosse directed films in the same era as Scorsese, Coppola, Lucas and Spielberg. All of whom were bigger, and better, directors then and certainly subsequently.
The movie left out an important subplot, that was done on the stage, added a LOT of crap that didn't belong, but did extended one scene, spectacularly well done/better done in the movie than on stage...when the Nazi Youth sings TOMORROW BELONGS TO ME. And THAT was all pure Fosse!
OTOH...Fosse's direction of the movie was very good, as was his choreography; as usual.
Yet Fosse WAS lauded for his direction of this movie and the appellation of "BIGGEST DIRECTOR", at that time ( you need to read the article! )is 100% true.
FOSSE WAS NOT ONLY NOMINATED FOR AN OSCAR, FOR CABARET, HE WON IT !
You are completely and utterly wrong, vis-a-vis Fosse's direction for the stage V movies. He was a BRILLIANT director for stage and not so much for screen!
Re his choreography...it was ALWAYS "quirky" and distinctive; though never changing. You either like/appreciate it or not. I happen to like it, but after a while it is stale, unlike the likes of Gower Champion's; whom I also like a lot as both a director and choreographer.
You are comparing apples and cement, with your throwing in the likes of Scorsese, Coppola, Lucas, and Spielberg. Completely different genres and even adding Lucas and Spielberg to the first two is absurd!
A true auteur/brilliant and versatile director would be Orson Welles!
