Connecticut Democrat insults people who object to additional road tolls or mileage tax. Since the money must come from somewhere, costs in general will rise. Poor hardest hit.

Leftists do not believe wealth is created (and destroyed), merely redistributed.
Hence Leftists do not consider how to encourage creation of more wealth, merely how else it may be further redistributed.

Gas taxes and tolls are about as regressive as it gets. Do the most to make low-wage work impractical for workers.

Someone that works, but doesn’t make much.

Keep in mind that the poor in the US today usually have air conditioning, something even the rich did not have in the not too distant past.

And smart phones...

My only question is, can I drive to Massachusetts without having to drive through Connecticut? Oh, wait... nevermind. I just realized I have zero desire to drive to Massachusetts.

Now this is ironic, since CT removed the tollbooths in the early 1980’s because, after wages and expenses, the tolls weren’t actually bringing in that much money.

My dad moved to Phoenix in the early 60s. Most cars back then didn’t have AC. So you had two choices, 455 AC—4 windows down at 55 mph, or drive with the windows up so that others think you have AC. (It was rather warm in Phoenix in the summer—even before global warming)

We’ve got a toll bridge just completed on I-65 in Louisville. There are no longer toll booths at all. Either you prepay or they send you a bill. It’s $2 if you prepay and $4 if you pay after. It’s so computerized that it costs them very little to charge you now. It’s a cash cow ;)

I avoid it at all costs, if only out of principle. I remember when they took the tool booths off the 520 floating bridge in Seattle because it was paid for. Can you imagine, in your wildest dreams, modern politicians doing that?

We moved from Washington state to a suburb of Fort Worth back in 1962. It was a very hot summer day when we drove into town. My mom and dad were VERY perplexed by all the cars with their windows up and couldn’t figure it out.

Auto air conditioning was that foreign to us. Of course, we were from an area that it wasn’t really all that required.

Georgia eliminated their one tool booth not long ago. Congestion was terrible just so they could get $0.25 per car.

That transitioned to installing automatic toll lanes (which I approve of). Your choice is either lots of lanes for free (and congested during rush hour), or pay whatever rate uses supply-and-demand to keep that one lane moving >= posted speed.
