Janet Mills has proposed new legislation that will allow people who are not doctors to perform abortions.The bill would enable registered nurses, certified nurse-midwives and other medical professionals to perform abortions, the Bangor Daily News reported.

I defend NY to no end on this board and I don’t know why.
I guess I feel like Staten Island and upstate NY are being thrown in with the monsters in Manhattan.
Though I really did like working in Manhattan and having good times for 20 years, at almost 51, it could sink and as long as my wife is home from work already, I wouldn’t care at all.

Actually, THAT was my first thought as well. And that was the argument liberal used many years ago in the push to legalize abortion. To stop needless deaths caused by unlicensed, untrained people performing abortions.

AFAIK, “non-doctors” have always been the ones doing most abortions. Since: forever.
Planned Parenthood has fought tooth & nail against legislation that would require “abortionists” to have emergency room admitting privileges, precisely because they aren’t doctors, they’re technicians trained to do abortions & not much else.
PP has stated, if they’re required to hire only doctors with ER admitting privileges, many clinics will be forced to shut down.
They routinely tell women that if complications occur, you’re on your own, go to the ER. Do not return to clinic, because nobody there can help them.
This forces the ER doctors & hospital to accept liability. Hence, hospitals favor the legislation. Abortionists don’t.
They’ve gone full circle now. They used to blame ‘coat hanger doctors in back alleys’, and now they are endorsing this.
