The Democrats’ “Green New Deal” proposal is praiseworthy but does not go far enough, the U.N.’s “right to food” expert said in an article posted Friday — one day after she was accused of ignoring the severe food crisis in Venezuela.
Hilal Elver, a U.S.-based Turkish academic appointed by the U.N. Human Rights Council (HRC) in 2014 as “special rapporteur on the right to food,” said the Democratic initiative would be the first major U.S. effort “to address the threat of climate change as dynamic, multi-dimensional, and ubiquitous, and for that alone, it deserves praise.” However, she added that the Green New Deal (GND) proposal — which critics view as aggressively radical, even socialist — “falls far short.” […]
Hillel Neuer, executive director of the non-governmental organization U.N. Watch, asked her why it was that “out of 11,058 words [in the report], there is not one, not one word, for the millions of Venezuelans who can’t get enough to eat?”
He noted that, of the nine country visits she has made since taking up her mandate, not one was to Venezuela. “If your mandate is to defend hungry people, why have you refused to write a report, or call for an urgent debate, or a commission of inquiry for families who are now forced to adopt emergency strategies of the kind used during famine in war-torn countries?” Neuer asked. “Are you not aware that 34 percent of people in Venezuela are either selling assets to buy food, eat from garbage bins, or sending a child to beg for food?” …

In the 21st century lack of food is not an issue, it is corruption that prevents food from getting to people. The other issue is that when nations like the US donate food to countries in Africa it crashes the local market and no farmer can compete so they become subsistence farmers instead of commercial. If the UN really wants to do something they should start agricultural schools in Africa and teach the people how to live without assistance.
The UN is a pathetic bunch of third world dictators and thugs.
Same applied to the previous century. My mother, who was born in the early 1940s, remembers her parents donating money and other aid to African charities as a child, when the “big men” socialist dictators took over in that continent; all of this donation has never ended since those days.
Second and third world. The second world didn’t go away with the fall of the USSR; Red China kept it alive, and they’re colonizing Africa while keeping them third-world in stature.
I think this guy might have a point. The US should make sure the rest of the world adopts this Green New Deal first. We wait 25 years see how it works for them, then maybe we try it.
I wonder what kind of educations “right to food experts” have to have to become a “right to food expert.” I imagine being a freeloading ***hole would get it done. NOBODY has the right to someone else’s food unless they are invited.

You’ll find insane poll results like 80 percent of Americans want this. And of course you know on what site you’ll find those polls.
But even sites that are left, their polls show the majority think the plan is pure and blatant socialism.

The majority of the UN are OIC nations, all underdeveloped turd word nations for the same reason, Islam.
Islam has generated more poverty and suffering than any other force known to mankind.
This UN “Expert” should focus on the root and common thread of the problem instead of trying to piratically raid the west one more time.
why is it everyone else must bow to them, do they feed folks in their countries, in the world? no, we need to..they want our money, the gangstamint is the mob, no law, the intelligence agencies are in the tank and all that will fix it id God or war as a puny 2nd choice
If it’s that freakin’ good, why isn’t the UN already pushing it amongst the other ‘members’?
There is no good reason other than money that this ridiculous green agenda can’t move forward elsewhere, using funds from other UN members.
