Oscars 2019: ‘Green Book’ is the worst best picture winner since ‘Crash’
Los Angeles Times ^ | February 24 | Justine Chang

“Green Book” is the worst best picture Oscar winner since “Crash,” and I don’t make the comparison lightly.

Like that 2005 movie, Peter Farrelly’s interracial buddy dramedy is insultingly glib and hucksterish, a self-satisfied crock masquerading as an olive branch. It reduces the long, barbaric and ongoing history of American racism to a problem, a formula, a dramatic equation that can be balanced and solved. “Green Book” is an embarrassment; the film industry’s unquestioning embrace of it is another.

LOL. Glad it won if it upsets the loony left. Both stars very good actors.

None of anything in that first paragraph had anything to do with a movie being good or bad. Unless movies are to be judged on purely political grounds.

Saw the movie was in the theaters but it didn’t seem like the kind of movie I was willing to pay to see.

I haven’t read anything about the movie.

For the eternally aggrieved and offended everything is to be judged on purely political grounds.

Justine was hoping Quentin Tarantino had a new Black Revenge Fantasy Movie in the running.

Saw it, liked it. B+ maybe. Check the black actor out in True Dectective, season 3. He is a great actor.

Why does he bring up the movie Crash?? Is he one of these liberals who were pissed that Crash beat Brokeback Mountain for best picture? He still holds a grudge that a homosexual themed movies didn’t win the big prize??

But Green Book meets the politically correct merits of the star being black, gay and Democrat.

I was shocked to see that Sebastian Maniscalco is in this.

He is the funniest stand-up comedian I have seen in a long time.

Can’t wait to view it when it is available at home.

Is he an Ahmadi? Most Sunnis and Shias consider Ahmadis to be heretical.

There is good cause to cheer that Green Book won, not just for its merits but that it unhinged Spike Lee and blocked a win by Roma or Bohemian Rhapsody, two foreign entries. In effect, the American entry won.

I’ve seen it twice and I could easily sit through it again. The transformation of Viggio Mortensen from a Middle Earth King to a street smart Italian bouncer is so good you never even think of LOTR and his rapport with Mahershala Ali is perfect. Upsetting the snowflakes is just icing on the cake.

I too am happy that leftists are pissed, but I still couldn’t care any less about Hollywood or their award shows.

Even for the apolitical, I just don’t understand the appeal of caring whether a movie that you had enough interest to see wins an award. At least with sports, the team of mercenaries ostensibly represents a city or university that you have some affiliation with, but with movies, I’d have to have a personal relationship with one of the actors up for an award to care at all.

Hmmm. Sounds like a race-reversed Driving Miss Daisy (the 1989 Best Picture Oscar winner, so 30th anniversary of that).

What does the current Democrat Party have in common with “Hollywood & The Academy Awards”? Both are pathetic, sick, demented losers. I suspect, when later today, we get to review the the TV viewing audience numbers, they will confirm how both the Democrat Party & the Hollywood Academy Awards presentations have zero impact, no one is watching and no one cares.
