The winner, Dartan:
Havanese are FABULOUS....they don’t BARK!
Beautiful. We lost our little rescue Chihuahua a year ago-—I pulled her off the hot AZ streets in October 2016 and she had a dozen health problems. Don’t like Chihuahuas, but Peanut was exceptional. Not a yipper. Very affectionate and (apparently) thankful for being rescued.
Found her dead of a brain aneurysm when we came home from church one morning.
I now have goosebumps.
You are never going to believe this, but I think we have your Chihuahua's reincarnation.
Her name is also Peanut, named not by us but by the rescue people we adopted her from. She is also very affectionate, outgoing, loves to meet new people, and (so far) not a yipper.
Our Vet told us that if all Chihuahuas were as well mannered as Peanut, the breed would be much more popular.
We already had two rescues. Milo, a Yorkie, did NOT like being displaced by a female (my wife always wanted a little girl dog). Stan, a doodle mix, got along with her fine. But Milo’s entire mood changed. He quit playing with toys, wouldn’t sleep in his bed after Peanut slept there.
We would get another Chihuahua right now, but it would just hurt Milo too much and he’s getting up there.
But man, she cost us a ton.
Best wishes to your Milo. We lost all of our dogs (and cats) to old age over the years, and Peanut may be the last dog we ever have in our lives, given our ages.
As our personal safety gets more & more compromised each & every day, I urge you to have dogs until you die & then someone else can have your dog.
They are the cheapest alarm system you can ever have.
I have a soft spot for German Shepherds. I always see the beauty and never the flaws. So they don’t win often enough at Wesminster for me. But I love all dogs, so as long as a cat doesn’t win, I’m good!
Our little Shi tzu is very wounded that we had the nerve to get a kitten! She’s been moping off and on for a month. She loves to get all the belly rubs and attention, and pouts whenever we play with or pet the cat.
The German Shepherd got Group3. I have to admit he is a pretty nice type for an American shepherd, even though he has zero Dallas in him (the last really good GS, albeit weak short ears). If they keep going this way I may actually consider a “pure” American strain again.
I like cats, BTW. Hoping to get one soon. Haven’t had one in 20 years. I loved him so. He and my best GS ever, were a great pair. A good cat is great, as is a good GS.
.
Yep, don’t get me wrong. I love cats, too. I must; I’m feeding 40 or 50 feral cats right now, and have been for years. The group’s grown a lot since I started putting out kibble and water for them. I really should try harder to catch them and get them neutered, and get them some other basic veterinary care. Hate to think what’s going to happen to them when we move either next year or the year after.
I like having dogs and cats together.
My last pet family, all rescues, consisted of a Keeshond (most gorgeous dog in the world), MaisyJane, a medium-hair black and white kittie who’d been run over, and another run-over cat, Lucky. Had a fenced acre for them, they went out every morning and then came home for breakfast. I preferred to stay in the yard with them. Since I got them all on the same month, they all crossed the rainbow bridge within months of one another.
And now, in an apartment, I have one little rescue cat: DaisyJane. Cannot be without a pet, though I must warn you that a kitten is a PIA. All of them. So maybe adopt an adult animal.
I have two havanese they are incredible dogs and so much fun.
What a nice thing to do for those felines.
And yes, they all need to be “fixed.” Our animal welfare people will do it free, hope yours do too.
Yes, the local SPCA will fix them. No charge. Their only restriction is that only one cat a day can be brought in by any one person. I could get the whole group done in a couple of months if I could catch them that quickly, which I couldn’t because some of them are much more wily than others. I think the SPCA also gives a small discount on other basic veterinary services for feral animals, so I could get them de-wormed and vaccinated. Yeah, I’ve got to do more, no doubt about it!
The wire-haired fox terrier won Best in Show. The Havanese won second place.
