Concur. This will most likely be overturned on appeal or she will get a rather sizable payout from a civil suit.
Austin? What is missing from this story?
Unless I’m missing something I don’t see how they can force someone to take an Oath like this. Texas is going to flip blue because they are being flooded by Mexicans but I guess supporting a foreign country is more important.
A lawsuit she should easily win, and deservedly so.
This is a great test case.
The State of Texas will lose.
Agreeing that she will not engage in Nazi-style boycotts against the Jewish State is hardly a “pro-Israel oath.” Typical that the anti-American louse Greenwald would be pushing this
I’m betting that the school would NEVER even think about insisting that she sign an oath of loyalty to the United States as part of the requirement to have her job.
“I have no sympathy for the BDSers but this is wrong. She refused to to take an oath that has nothing to do with her job”
Boycotting is against Texas law. She is being asked to obey the law.
Why would any teacher in the U.S. be forced to sign something oaths to foreign countries?! Sorry ... this is wrong!
BDS is an organized academic movement that is expressly committed to using employers’ time to interfere with a foreign government. Preventing such a disrupter in government schools is an obligation to taxpayers.
The article states 26 red and blue states have passed anti-BDS laws wrt Israel, with bills pending in 13 more. The ACLU and Mohammedan organizations must be challenging these statutes in court. Private sector employers can and do impose behavior requirements on its employees. The question is may governments do the same? I know that the DoD restricts uniformed, civilian, and contractor personnel from conducting political activities on its properties. The school district might have a case, if the prohibition applies when the woman is at work.
Another case of forced bending to a foreign power.
Wrong and dumb.
It’s a Texas law. Keeps the camel jockeys away
Agree 100%. The only surprise here is that the oath wasn't a Leftist pro-LGBT or pro-immigration or pro-Palestinian oath.
I work for a TX based company that does a lot of financial and bond related work for Texas Schools, Counties, Cities, Airports, Hospitals, etc...
What they are leaving out is that ANY person or company doing business needs to sign not only the “no Israel Boycott” statement, they also need to sign a statement stating that they do not do business with Sudan, Iran, or “any other organization known to promote, aid, or engage in terrorism and appears on the list of nations and NGO’ kept by the Controllers Office as required by Chapter 2252 of the Texas Government Code”. That was probably the one that caused her problems...
These laws have been on the books for two years. So now some Burka wearing troglodyte does not want to agree to NOT support terrorists. There’s a shocker. At least this one does seem to be in Hudna mode, so thank her for her honesty as you deport her.
I wouldn’t call it PRO Israel...
UNLESS your definition of Pro Israel, is anything that ISN’T negative to Israel.
Maybe its not about promoting Israel,
But instead it’s about NOT attacking it,
and using the persons position at the school to promote anti-Israel bias.
It’s insane that Texas passed this law in the first place.
I don’t care what religion the lady belongs to. Christians have also objected to taking this oath. Some went elsewhere for jobs, others were unhappy but signed the paper because they needed the work. If she stands up in class and tells the kids to hate Israel then she deserves to be fired but you can’t fire someone for refusing to buy Israeli made products. Your job does not have the right to dictate your personal opinions.
To be clear, the problem isn't that it's Israel. The problem is that it's a foreign country. I think they're trying to keep the employees from politicizing the workplace. That's a laudable goal, but they need to revisit how they're doing it.
