This guy built a ‘glitter bomb’ and filmed Amazon thieves getting their just deserts.

You do NOT want to mess with Kevin McCallister.

Substitute a thermite grenade for the glitter and you will have something.

I live in NYC. There are license plate readers (both active and passive) all over the city. There is no privacy here.

The guy in the video totally over-engineered the package, by his own admission. The cameras were not necessary. A dye pack and maybe GPS would have been simpler and better.

The trap looks far more expensive than anything I’d order, but it’s a clever idea. Dye would be better. The car or residence would be ruined, and the thief would be limited in public activities if the dye hits their faces.

A 12 Gauge shotgun and fear for my life when I encountered a thief on my porch {no cameras until the body is in rigor} would solve this problem.

Is the crime of stealing worth killing a thief? Not really, but fear for your life is a different story.

I just had a package pilfered from my porch last Saturday. It was delivered at 8:28 in the morning. Stolen within an hour. I’m ticked and out $80.00.

True. I might try to locate some cheap, small GPS units. Some trained families might be able to save lives with them.

There are jurisdictions where people can legally be subjected to deadly force for committing crimes while trespassing including vehicle tampering. Depends on the jurisdiction, so look it up if interested.

Glitter is almost as bad. Glitter is the herpes of the craft world. Those people will never get all of it out of their cars, for instance.

If it goes off on your porch, there is going to be cleanup on your own porch.

I think this is one of the most ingenious and well designed things I have seen this Christmas season.

And anyone with a geek’s mind loves it.

But you have video of them.

I think you are missing the point. Part of it WAS entertainment of being able to see and hear the response of the criminals.

You must really enjoy this.

Not getting your package back, but vicariously, you can appreciate this I am sure!

Someone made a good point though... thieves rarely remember where they stole the package from. They grab it and go; they aren’t exactly writing down addresses.

And lets face it... thieves like this are cowards. They aren’t going after anyone....

I really, REALLY liked that touch...:)

Hahahahaha! Sure...EXTREMELY overengineered! But I think the critics are missing the point...:)

Come on, guys. Who here hasn’t COMPLETELY overengineered something for the sheer JOY of seeing if you could do it????

I can see why this went wildly viral!

On a related note, I found the video of the group of guys in a car where the thing went off to be pretty funny...there is no honor in thieves! His comrades were laughing at him, which they could afford to do because it wasn’t THEIR car. (I know, it was probably a stolen car, but still...they could have had some sympathy for their fellow theives who got fart sprayed and covered with glitter, but they seemed to enjoy it just as much as the package’s creator...)

"...They grab it and go; they aren’t exactly writing down addresses..."

Hahahahahahaha! They are going to put the address on the package into a GPS to drive over and break windows if they live in Chicago, and show up at a house and think..."Hey...why they hell does this look familiar? And not in a good way..."

Problem with Die is that it would be a one time use device. The mess would also ruin that “new package” look.

What law suits? The person first has to admit to a crime before they can sue? Are they going to sue for damages? What, the electric bill for running a vacuum cleaner? There is no law suit there. In 98.3% of courts, it gets thrown out. In 75% of those cases a judge would refer the plaintiff for prosecution based on the evidence presented by the defendant.

*sigh*. Did you watch the video? Obviously he did not put his real address on the package. In fact, i recommend you DO watch the video to see exactly what he did do.
