This was shot in color. It only looks B&W because of the smog.

Is it only a Karfornee thing to grill in the fireplacs?

See it in old movies and TV shows set in Los Angeles.

Brick outdoor grills are not California only. I grew up in Connecticut, and plenty of people had them. An old friend in Everett, WA has one in the backyard of his mid-century house. Lucy and Ethel tried to build one when they lived in CT.

Looks like the film was shot in the Bunker Hill area, based on inclines and the position of City Hall in the background.

It had to be 1947 or later, near 1950. I saw a Studebaker, looked like a 51...............

My wife is a fan of PM. We get a kick of the vast changes portrayed vice what is seen in society today - even tho the series was first screened in 1957.

They still have the traffic signals where the stop and go signs pop-out from the side. At around 5:50 there is a billboard for the Hollywood Bowl, but I can’t quite make out the dates.

If the film maker had used a high resolution steadycam, we could probably read the date on the license plates. ;)

My family is from rust-belt, snow-belt midwest.

My uncle was in California for part of WWII. He stayed, and married a girl whose family farm was in Anaheim/Huntington Beach area. My mom visited him and her sister-in-law several times in the 50’s and 60’s. She said she thought it was paradise on earth.
