Bob Seger retires from the road

Posted on 12/01/2018 4:14:22 PM PST by LongWayHome

Bob Seger just started his last North American concert tour. He's still in good form & if you have not seen him live, or would like to....this is your last chance.

I know several members of his band & to a person, they speak very highly of the man. He is criminally underrated in my opinion. In his prime 1976-1982, he was the biggest rock & roll act in the world selling out more concerts than the Rolling Stones & getting more radio airplay than anyone, including Bruce Springsteen.

Seger's three albums since his comeback in 2006, after years of retirement when he was raising his children, are better than anything his peers have put out. Hat's off the Seger...truly the end of an era.

That’s the greatest live LP in Rock history.

I'm probably in the minority, but it's not even my favorite Bob Seger live LP. (If I could keep just one live album, it would be hard to choose between Nine Tonight and REO You Get What You Play For.

I don't get the reference. I never heard of him being confused between a woman and man.

It was a reference to most rock stars then having long hair.

Bob Seager is the type of artist in which I’ve never bought any music.

Just turn on the radio and odds are he’ll be in soon.

Commies living the American dream and making tons of money. What an oxymoron.

It’s laughable.

That parody ballad was hilarious.

Thanks much for posting the link.

Wouldn’t that be something to find a copy of, at a garage sale?

I vaguely recall Seger from 69-70 Then he recorded some in Muscle Shoals and Florence Alabama That new stuff got pimped heavy at WABB in Mobile in summer 1974....a progressive FM rock session...album rock.....I was at Fairhope AL high school so WABB and a small station in Andalusia Alabama were it So that’s when I really heard Rambling Gambling Man in heavy rotation though I recalled its earlier more stripped down mix from seventh grade AM radio That summer they also pushed Andy Pratt Avenging Annie..an obscure but well done song And Buckingham Nicks For Michigan I like Seger but I was always much more into this seersucker clad lad

Man, Andy Pratt. That brings back memories. Had a girl back in the day that played “Avenging Annie” non-stop.

There’s a Seger bootleg CD from a concert he gave in Saratoga Springs in the 80s that’s excellent. I suspect the whole thing is on the internet. It’s fantastic.

Bob and son Pete both commie fascists.

My reply will be more polite than redhawk's (post#39), but my thoughts might be in line with his.

Bob Seger is not related to Pete Seeger. Pete is a commie, Bob is fairly apolitical and describes himself as a centrist (although he apparently did support Hillary, although I'm not sure how vocal he was about it.) Pete was 26 years older than Bob and has been dead for almost 5 years, so Bob is not his father. Is it possible the father-son commie duo you are half-remembering is Woodie and Arlo Guthrie?

I was commenting on rich American commie lovers. Didn’t even think of Pete. Yeah, he’s full blown old 60’s commie.

Seger is a little left of center....at least in public. He got a lot of blowback in the 80s when he voted for Reagan over Mondale.

Most likely that situation left a bad taste that lingered. He’s not in your face like most of the people in his profession.

I'm a record collector and was looking for that disc for years. Thanks to Youtube, it's now available.

I almost got tickets in 2017 but he cancelled due to "Back Pain", Kinda irked me because I did hard construction work most of my life in extreme back pain until I finally got surgery. I know, I know, Judge not lest me be judged..but I still do

hes finally coming back in February I may try to get last minute tickets, that's if my Total Knee Replacement on 11/16 heals enough by then

It was not just back pain. Bob had a ruptured disc in his neck that was pressing on his spinal cord. Get This: Seger opted for a more painful & difficult operation through the back of his neck (cervical laminectomy) to keep his singing voice intact. He opted for the pain when he could have taken an easier operation that might have affected his larynx so that he could come back and finish the tour for folks like you who missed out.

In no way did he just quit the tour for some back pain.

At least you know the difference. You’d be surprised how many don’t, in this day and age.
