I can't post an excerpt here but the article says that not only has the Air Force caved, but the Army has recently allowed a beard exemption for a soldier of the Norse pagan faith.

Shaving waivers were fairly common when I was in the AF. A bearwould have to be trimmed pretty tight.

The Navy used to allow short beards for petty officers on shore duty. That was in the 80s, though.

I saw some shaving waivers in the Army too 40+ years ago, but this guy has the full muzzie beard.
