The 1946 Battle of Athens, Tennessee
Investigations into Cantrell and Mansfield elections began when citizens noticed that many of the votes tallied included felons and deceased members of the county. As well as the returning veterans were routinely targeted by the Sheriffs men as they made up roughly 10 percent of the countys voting populous. An opposing non-partisan party to Cantrell and Mansfield was formed by the returning G.I.s and thus the 1946 battle of Athens, Tennessee began.

Given today's headline it seemed important to remind Freepers and others that there was a time that good law abiding citizens deemed enough was enough and they rose up and took control to ensure that fair elections were to be held...even at the point of a gun.

Good thing the citizens had the right to keep and bear arms.

Thanks for posting this...didnt know.
I read about it in the local paper and I'm a born and bred Tennessee citizen.
Little surprised this doesn't get the attention it deserves because it shows the people that they have a recourse other than the courts or the next election cycle to "throw the bums out"
Hollywood and TV would never make a movie like this... unless conservatives were the villains
The media today who wet themselves at Trump's actions or even just words, would have an aneurysm at a group of concerned citizens righting the corrupt machine politics without their advice..
Yet it is only through their inaction that makes the conditions that arose out of Athens that makes good men take the law into their own hands.

Yep. The reason why the Founding Fathers insisted it be included.
And not for “hunting”

I think about it everytime there's an election fraud issue arises. The last time was Florida...again back in 2000.(Bush/Gore)

If you search around and find out more details of the story you will be amazed. Well worth the time.

The first time I read about this, years ago, it felt surreal, like an episode of The Twilight Zone.
The communist historians do not want us to know this history that validates the Second Amendment.

Scene from An American Story, a movie about the Battle of Athens from 1993. Imagine Hallmark making this movie today.

Good thing the citizens had the right to keep and bear arms." Fixed it for you. Better they were armed than have the right to be armed and not exercise it.
