RIVERSIDE (CBSLA) — A rash of Halloween decoration heists have hit Riverside County homes that are decked out for the holiday.

...The Peppitos didn’t call the police because the cost of the skeleton was just $25. But when they posted the video on social media, other people chimed in with their Halloween decoration thefts.

One homeowner in Hemet caught someone stealing their large inflatables from their yard over the weekend, while another thief was seen stealing a projector light from a home in Perris last week. Each theft was caught on video.

I feel bad for the owners. It ain’t right in the least. But a state that won’t enforce its laws can expect lawlessness in both the big and small things.

Pumpkin smashing went on when I was a kid in the 60’s, too. And TPing and soaping windows. October 30 was called “beggars night” when I was that age and that’s when most of the mischief took place.

TPing and soaping ain’t so bad as embarrassing. Pumpkin smashing is scary. Especially to little kids. Stealing is worse. It’s all that and theft. All those things say more about the perps than the targets. Folks try to have innocent, decorative, and spooky fun and latent stalkers think they get a pass one night out of the year to be creepy goblins. It sucks all the fun out of the season.

Add “trespassing” to all that, too!

I also remember mischief night in the late 1960s. We smashed pumpkins on the road and soaped windows. Halloween back then was a party at the end of the day in school,a four hour monster movie matinee, and a half a pillow case of candy. Folks back then would also give out pennies.

Obviously Criminal Corrections doesn’t work. Hence forth we should use capitol punishment on anyone committing a crime with a weapon or 2nd time offenders.

Yeah, it just not fair for white, middle-class Californians to have Christmas decorations when kids in the Guatemalan caravan are being deliberately starved by the Cheeto! /kamala harris mode off

I should learn how to post pictures to this site. We are set up for Halloween like nobody is set up for Halloween, Yet NOBODY has come here in the 31 years we’ve been at this add’y to Trick or Treat. Nobody seems to want to be subjected to real scary stuff like tripping, and falling in the dark on rocky eroded dirt roads, packs of rabid Coyote’s, and snarling Bobcats.

BOO!

I believe it was Halloween of 1968. I was walking home from a party when a carload of older teens pulled up next to me and pelted me with eggs. Not having any eggs to return fire I picked up the nearest thing - a rock - and threw it, smashing out the rear window of the car.

I spent the next two hours being hunted by these kids, all hollering and whooping that they would beat my ass when they caught me. Turns out that I was much better at hide n seek than they were.

Trick or treat!
