WHITEFIELD — A “huge feral cat problem” on Townhouse Road — to the tune of up to 100 such felines — could affect the health of domestic animals and people who come in contact with them, an animal control officer told selectmen last week.

Ben Cook, a Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department animal control officer assigned to Whitefield, discussed the issue at last week’s selectboard meeting, saying he’d noticed the problem about two weeks ago. A town resident, however, said it began more than a year ago.

All because Susan Collins voted for Kavanaugh.

I could tell you how I got rid of dozens of cats that were let out of a nearby general store after being locked in for weeks and weeks.

But I’m pretty sure I would get in trouble if it was made public.

Was it green, and did it accidentally leak out of your car’s radiator?

Lock up the children and elderly! When I go for a walk, I always worry that I might be attacked by packs of feral pit bull cats.

Yep. There was a time when residents could take care of feral cat problems on their own. These days you could get charged with a felony, go to jail, lose your job, get smeared as an animal abuser. People would call you a future serial killer. And on and on...

“Bring in the coyotes. Feral cat problem will be gone.”

Lol, for sure. I live in a community on the northern periphery of DFW, Texas. And, we have lots of bobcats and coyotes living amongst us. Not only do they keep feral cat problem down they keep rabbits and other small rodents. However, there’s a big controversy here in our hood concerning what to do about them. I’m pro bobcat for sure.

How heavy does a feral cat have to be to qualify as “huge”?

I saw a couple in my backyard and started looking for ways to get rid of them. A couple Feral Cat websites were pretty clear that rescue places won’t take them. They stopped just short of telling you ways to poison or otherwise kill them.

But at the same time, they were also very clear that feral cats bear no relationship to household cats and that they are wild animals that cannot be housebroken.

I saw an old lady in our neighborhood setting out food for them. Not real happy. The stray cat population has gone from none to 5-6 around our area this year.
