“And frankly College English is not the way we write any more.”
It certainly is not. I found two ‘its’ in your post that are missing their apostrophe, two ‘coarses’ that do not refer to sandpaper, ‘Philosophy’ (in the 3rd sentence) and ‘frankly’ should be followed by commas, and ‘anymore’ should be one word, not two.
It’s not my intent to criticise you, only to validate your opening sentence. That, and the fact that my OCD is working overtime today. No offence was intended.
Here's a thread from yesterday from MIT Technology Review that perfectly illustrates this dilemma. And here is the photo of the mathematics student at MIT that accompanied the article from MIT Technology Review:
It's an article about her sexual pleasure.
“Anymore” is not considered proper usage. It should be two words in formal writing. Otherwise, your edits to poinq were on point.

Because in America we speak Spanish and a hundred other languages.

That needs to stop. Want to be an American? Learn our language, customs, practices and habits and take them as your own. Otherwise, get out.
We’ve been allowing the degenerate and destructionist left Balkanize our own country on purpose.
Because, maybe, degrees in English don’t lead to many employment options outside of wakademia?
I debated why, a long time ago. My friends with their soc majors walked in stoned to multiple choice finals. I was handed a blank essay book and had to fill it from my memory with facts about old English poets and writers and works of art, and I was downgraded for commas in the wrong place. I worked 20x harder for a C than they did for an A. My friends could guess half their answers. I loved being an English major but all its really brought me is the ability to understand all the references on Frasier.
He saw graphic and demented sex in every word of every story.
I was a proofreader through a lot of college. It was fun. Met a lot of horny lawyers and kept them all at bay. Luckily some were gay.
The title of this post is written very poorly.
If the writer was better educated and knew proper grammar & English, he would have written the title as follows ;
Scholars Debate Why Few People Take English As A Major.
“Scholars Debate Why”, (is not a complete sentence).
But the snowflakes say they’re entitled to their language and customs and we shouldn’t hurt their feelings by making them assimilate into OUR culture.
I was not aware of that change. It’s been over fifty years since I took any high school English. I’ve been going with, “Do you have any more cookies or don’t they make them anymore?”
Will this work? “And I’m, like, YO! Got anymo’ cookies?”
Ackkk! :o)
That is why boots have thick soles.
Stomp the crap out of the situation.
None offense taken. But having raised 5 children who can’t read cursive, have no idea the meaning of many common words. Its clear that English has been simplified and many common English teacher rules (not ending a sentence in a preposition) are just not followed anymore in public use.
I was a math major. And while my programming syntax was flawless, my English syntax was wanting. If I had to send everything I write through a compiler, my English would be much better.
It’s no biggie!
