Authorities say a dead hiker whose body was recovered this week was likely killed by a cougar, marking the first fatal attack by a wild cougar in Oregon and the second in the Pacific Northwest this year.
Search and rescue teams found the body of Diana Bober, 55, on Monday off a trail in the Mount Hood National Forest in Welches, about 40 miles (65 kilometers) southeast of Portland. Her body was several miles from where searchers found her car last week near a ranger station.

Her body had injuries consistent with a cougar attack and a medical examiner ruled out the possibility that she was mauled after she died of another cause,

When you hike in the wild.....
This is why, when I was a young man, I only went camping with women my age.
Older women scared me.
Those older women will eat you up.
Oh, oh, here she comes . . .
Probably a tree hugging Portland democrat.
My daughter quit her lucrative job to become a philanthropist and full time mom (though not pregnant yet). The first thing she did a couple of months ago was go - all by herself - on a camping trip in the Alaska wild. She was woke up in the middle of the night by some rustling. It was a moose. She remained extremely silent and it went away, but returned in the morning.
She spent the rest of the trip at a hotel.
I explained to her that it really could have been a Grizzly or black bear. We saw a lot of both last time we were up there.

No throat, lungs, liver, heart, pancreas, calves or thighs.
Tell her the Timmy Treadwell story.
Rough way to go..
I hope she at least had a rifle.......................
Pretty sure it's her... [was]
I did. :-)

I read somewhere that many Alaskan guides carry double-barreled shotguns. The theory is that you’re only gonna get off two shots before things get up-close and personal.
So I guess they're ruled out terrorism.
What a way to go.
Prayers for her.
Precisely
Nope. Just thought it would be fun to go camping - on her own - in a complete wilderness where all sorts of truly dangerous animals run about.
