This Blind Kitty is a Bit Wobbly But He Surprises His Rescuers with His Special 'Abilities'...

A little kitty wobbled his way into his rescuers hearts. Despite being blind and a bit wobbly, this little wonder kitty doesn't think he's disabled.

Meet Astro the cat!

Little Astro was rescued from a hoarding situation by Saving Grace Rescue (in San Francisco, California). He was found blind and infested with fleas. "He was unable to find food in the stench and was losing weight and near death when we got him," Amber Holly of Saving Grace Rescue told Love Meow.

Astro cannot see and needs a bit more time to learn to balance but he is full of love and affection and some serious quirks. As soon as he's picked up, he goes limp in your arms.

"His eyes look healthy but he is completely non visual. I am hoping the neurologist can help us understand his history better." Astro had two seizures in the first few weeks, but things quickly improved after he moved into his foster home.

After a much-needed flea bath, little Astro revealed his unique "abilities".

Josh Norem, Astro's foster dad and the Furrtographer, combed out an insane amount of fleas. The little tabby was so grateful for the relief that he curled up in his lap, switched on his purr motor, and started catching invisible bugs in the air.

Since then, his true character has been unleashed.

"He's a weird cat, even by cat standards," Norem told Love Meow.

"Like the litter box for example, (he has) one with tall sides but an open front, and yet he'll jump over the side when he's done…. He'll jump on the stairs to the couch, then fall off them."

Astro has the ability to make people smile, constantly, with his many quirks.

"He loves to climb my leg, but not the cat condo," Norem said. "He does weird things with his hind legs. Like leaving them off the condo (I put him up there) or halfway out of the bed, etc.."

Astro is the master of lying partially in his bed.

"That's his normal thing."

Astro doesn't think he has any disabilities. He does things in his own unique ways.

"He sleeps in the craziest positions sometimes," Norem said.

"He has come far and is doing much better... He leaps around playfully every morning and is loving his new life with comfort, food and care," Saving Grace Rescue said.

After getting up on the couch through the stairs, he wedges his legs snuggly between the couch and the stairs just the way he likes it.

"He goes limp when I pick him up, and prefers to be on his back with his paws up by his face," Norem told Love Meow.

When he discovered that stairs have the same effect as lying over the edge of his bed, he's hooked!

Astro may be a bit trembly but he wants his humans to know that he's just as purrfect as any other kitty with all the joy and love he can offer.

The tabby boy doesn't think he's disabled... just differently abled with his own extraordinary abilities.

Astro catching air toys!

"He's learning to not walk off ledges, but still thinks he's stuck."

Interesting eyes, for a blind cat. They remain open, the pupils appear to respond to light levels, yet the cat is apparently blind.

My daughter adopted a cat born without eyes. It seems to do OK — follows walls a lot to get where it needs to go...

LOL

I’m a huge fan of the Dune series so any reference gets my applause.

I was a dedicated dog person until that little orange ball of fur appeared in my rain-soaked driveway almost 2 decades ago. He was an abandoned feral kitten whose eyes hadn’t yet opened...he grew into a 25 lb savage...I named him Buster and I’ve had a heart for cats ever since. I still miss him every day.

I’m a huge fan of the Dune series myself. Have read all the sequels and prequels.

Unlike the purists, I enjoyed the B. Herbert/KJ Anderson books immensely. Yeah there were some oddball retcons, but so what. I was just happy to see more Duniverse LOL

I emailed them via the official Dune website about writing a trilogy about the ‘Famine Times’ and the ‘Scattering’ times, right after the death of Leto II, when the Honored Maters were created from the remnants of the Fish Speakers and the Exiled/Expatriated Bene Gesserit. We readers and fans know nothing of what was going on in that time frame, which was about 5000 years!

Kevin Anderson emailed me back saying it was a very interesting idea. But I haven’t seen any new novels covering that era...............

LOL I’d read that trilogy...pretty cool that you got a response.

I like his Star Wars novels, a franchise that owes much to the Duniverse as well.

Though my favorite is “I, Jedi” by Stackpole which ironically enough is set during Anderson’s new Jedi order timeline.

I despise Star Wars and anything connected to it. Even before Disney bought it.

I went to see the first one in 1977 at the theater, after all the hype, and was sorely disappointed while the now iconic words began scrolling up the screen.

“A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away............”

I remember saying to myself, “This is a damned Fairy Tale!”..................

Soooo... you expected an accurate non-fiction account of the Empire being opposed by that plucky band of Rebels?

LOL I was 5 yrs old when I saw the first movie and I’ve liked it ever since. I will admit I’m less than thrilled with the latest trilogy. The SJW infection has just about killed many a franchise.

RJ Sawyer put out an interesting proposal for a prequel series that linked the THX-1138 timeline to SW; I’ve read it all and wish it’d been pushed by Lucas. IMHO

I didn’t know what to expect in 1977. No one did.

They hype surrounding the initial release of this movie was enormous. No supposed Science fiction move had ever had such a budget or such a premier.

Being a science fiction fan from my earliest childhood I expected a more serious introduction.

Had they NOT USED that introduction as it was written my opinion would have been different. It started out just like a Grimm’s Fairy Tale, “Once upon a time in a land far, far away........”

I have never seen one Star Wars movie since the first one and now that Disney owns it, never will..................

He’s a cutie. I had three blind cats once. They adapted amazingly well. The only time they had problems is when I moved or rearrange the furniture or brought in something new. Other than that people didn’t even know they were blind.

One of the blind ones was even the first one to go through a brand new cat door. He had to teach The sighted ones how to do it!
