There's a huge difference between a spontaneous, unsolicited showing of honor, respect and appreciation for the life, talent and significance of an individual who has passed from this life to the next versus a self-orchestrated and self-directed, self-aggrandizing performance, put on by puppets who are following the "star's" instructions on how to praise and glorify that one's existence.

Franklin's seems to be a voluntary, genuine and from-the-heart acknowledgement of a great talent who knew where her talent came from and who offered it as a gift to her fellow human beings. Her reward will be in the hereafter and granted by her Creator.

How many will care or even remember McCain after 5 years? The songs, Respect, Chain of Fools, Natural Woman will remain soul standards forever that will be enjoyed throughout musical history. Is there a person who ever heard the groove and Aretha's voice in Respect that doesn't like it? I've never met one. Musicians and movies will continue to cover those songs in one arrangement or another.

Another example: The Stones have had more of their songs in movies and still on jukeboxes than any other musicians (except maybe Elvis). Think "Honky Tonk Woman" or "Jumpin Jack Flash" and the most used, "Gimme Shelter". Some songs/artists are immortal. Aretha is one of them. RIP, dear Lady of Soul.
