Put a Chinese restaurant on the island.

Because some colors and patters are recessive it is not uncommon for first gen babies to not resemble their parents at all... because they are probably splits, having one recessive gene but not visually showing the recessive trait. They may look plain jane but pair two splits with one or more fancy or colorful recessive traits and the fancy colors will emerge in half their offspring.

But pair them with another split or one that looks like one of their parents, and then most of the kittens look like grampa and grandma.

Some genes for color can also mask others- in cockatiels the white can mask the yellow of a normal bird, as well as the orange spot on the cheek. It may be some colors in cats can mask others as well. I don’t know cat genetics...but in birds there are also sex-linked mutations that confuse things, too.

Cats can be impregnated by more than one male at a time, too, so I understand.

Great job offer since cats taste a lot like chicken.

Fun fact: Cats are the dominant species when it comes to cats and dogs. It was cartoons that perpetuated the myth that dogs were dominant over cats.

“Istanbul has the same thing with cats.”

A great movie about Istanbul’s cats: Kedi

Istanbul has the same thing with cats.

There's a documentary called Kedi which is all about the cats of Istanbul. It's delightful.

As for that one grey tabby, probably different “baby daddies”, I’ve seen feral litters where it was pretty clear mama cat was not at all selective in her amorous adventures.

This also happens among humans, where twins have different fathers. The technical term is heteropaternal superfecundation. It gets kind of embarrassing when the twins are of different races.

The hawks and owls get most feral kittens. The ones that make it to adult are usually smarter than their deceased siblings. Same for baby coons. I love raccoons.

One of my all time favorite ads. Fording the river is a classic and standing around lint rolling themselves is a riot. I laugh myself silly every time I watch it!
