My friends (a couple) from South Africa have a 2 week visit planned to see me at my place here in Las Vegas. This trip they were planning to bring their good friend, a younger (21 year old) friend of theirs (they're late 20's).
The US denied her tourist visa... without asking any questions. The reason "risk of immigration".
WTF?
A young gal, with a family, friends, job (fitness model) in South Africa can't join her friends in the US for 2 weeks with return ticket in hand? But, anyone waltzing across the Mexican border is in for life no questions asked?
Looks like a good subject for a Congressional inquiry to me. I’d make contact with the local district office to see if they can assist. Perhaps it’s just a paperwork SNAFU from checking a wrong block on the application - hope it’s an easy fix for your friends. I agree that it certainly doesn’t pass the “smell test.”
Among the Obama holdovers, only non whites can be legitimate refugees.
Plus, if she had any sense, she WOULD disappear into the US. And any guy would be happy to harbor her.
The nursing home I got out of n April was chock full of Africans, including South Africans, on the staff. How many were here legally? I have no way of knowing.
Unfortunately, a lot of people come on tourist visas and just stay.
Immigration officials can deny a visa for any reason or no reason. I’ve known of a few people they have done this to over the years. I agree it makes no sense because of “immigration risks” but illegals can do it and no one bats an eye.
I would suggest your young friend go back to the embassy and show proof of a job, bank account, family, etc. Anything to show she has a reason to return and not stay in the US. If nothing else works then just have her cry during the interview (It has worked for a few people)
She's going today to the embassy in Pretoria for an in person interview appeal... hope it goes well.
Well yea, I understand... but this kid doesn't have any reason (or means) to do that. She has family/home in Pretoria, and the friends she's traveling with have businesses and life to get back to in Pretoria after their vacation.
This does not surprise me at all. My foreign fwife had to apply several times before she was finally able to obtain a tourist visa.
Consider this. Most of the people of all kinds in South Africa would rather be here for the bling, the cars, the girls (see human trafficking problem already happening), rumors of easy money (opportunities for corruption), etc.
And for many years, our political class intelligentsia has seen fit to bring in anyone who might appear to be either well off (including those who have monstrous numbers of relatives to bring in) or impoverished (elite philanthropy for exotic, regressive cultures). And if we try to narrow immigration to those of our own culture, the rich and politically influential will scream, “No fair!”

A two week visit sounds like a standard vacation trip. WTF,? I don’t get it.

Your cultural insensitivity is showing. More correctly, it should be "New Manila-Mumbai." /s
without trying to be a total **** in response:
1. the persons she is traveling with have no bearing whatsoever on her visa application.
2. a young model could have EVERY reason to want to immigrate to America - her career chances a likely much higher.
3. a return ticket is no guarentee that she would actually return
4. in all likelyhood, her “profile” simply matches what they consider a risk and she was summarily denied.
A personal interview will likely resolve all issues and I am glad to hear that this is already planned.
That is what one young girl did after her visa expired. Being from South Africa THE GIRL COULD NOT REGISTER AS A REFUGEE BECAUSE SHE’S WHITE. It does not say that per se but it is understood. Three girls never granted asylum. They never returned to S.A. and Rhodeshia
whites from Africa are screwed.
President Trump this is a big issue. Why our are voices silent?
Its probably not her but her country of origin.
I imagine whites are bailing from south africa right and left.
IMO, this country needs more young, female fitness models.
