After a pregnant writer lambasted selfish men: I dare not offer my train seat to a woman
UK Daily Mail ^ | August 2, 2018 | Nick Booth

In Femail magazine a couple of weeks ago, Natasha Pearlman, who is eight months pregnant, wrote about how shocked she had been by the lack of consideration now given to pregnant women by men in Britain, especially on public transport.

A man had been rude to her for walking too slowly and holding him up as she made her way through a London Tube station, and he wasn’t the least bit remorseful either when she confronted him over it.

She also recounted a recent experiment carried out by a blogger who wore a fake pregnancy bump to test how many people would offer her a seat. Not many was the conclusion.

Chivalry is a two way street and women decided they won't hold up their side of the bargain.

They get upset if we act like gentlemen. Then they get upset if we act indifferent.

Agree. Feminism creates the equal and opposite effect of killing chivalry.

I don’t think a civilized society requires a person to accept an offer of accommodation, only to be polite in either accepting or declining.

For example, I was carrying a load of camping gear to my car a couple of weeks ago, and two men offered to help. “No, thanks,” I said, “I’ve got it.” “I was just trying to be helpful!” said one, in an affronted tone. “That was nice of you,” I replied, “but I’m fine, thanks.”

They were supervising Scouts, while I was on a break. It was much more appropriate for them to stay in their roles, although the offer was kind. On other occasions, I was happy to accept assistance from both adults and youth in putting away the archery targets.

"...wore a fake pregnancy bump to test how many people would offer her a seat..."

IOW, neither men nor women were likely to offer her a seat. Did she announce that she was pregnant, or were they supposed to be rude enough to presume it?

To demand that someone else be unselfish to you is itself a selfish act.
If you want chivalry, try saying Thank You when someone is chivalrous.
The women who lambasted men for holding the door open or giving up their seat made it worse for other women.

I wonder why other women can't offer their seats to a pregnant "sister"? Why only lambaste men?

Sorry, I won’t spend my chivalry on Limey Wymin, or any other Wymin for that matter, they are an inferior product.

Every person should be prepared to be helpful to another person who seems in need for any reason: age, pregnancy, other mobility impairments, burdens, anything that comes up.

I suppose one just gets cranky, though, if one habitually uses public transportation and is exposed to lots of obnoxious behavior.

Ask a woman whether it’s a boy or a girl if you assume it’s a “pregnancy bump” and see what happens...

The rest of you nailed it, but I didn’t see that little bit of hypocrisy cited.

You can't fix ingratitude.

Offer your seat anyway.

The area I'm cautious is with the handicapped.

Many are proud of their independence and ability to make do.

I've had too many offers indignantly rejected to assume my help is welcome.

Feminism killed chivalry by calling all men evil bastards, and now whines that men no longer put woman on a pedestal.
