Nancy Sinatra Sr., the former wife of Frank Sinatra and mother of his three children, has died. She was 101.
According to a tweet posted by Sinatras daughter Nancy, she died Friday. My mother passed away peacefully tonight at the age of 101. She was a blessing and the light of my life. Godspeed, Momma. Thank you for everything, Nancy wrote. The cause and location of death was not released.
Sinatra, then Nancy Barbato, met Frank Sinatra in summer of 1934 in Long Branch, N.J. and they were married roughly five years later, on Feb. 4, 1939 at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic church in Jersey City, N.J. Before Sinatras singing career took off, the couple lived in an apartment in Jersey City. Nancy Sr found work as a secretary while Frank worked as a singing waiter.

Another angle for the northeastern Italo grandmas could be their close social interactions with their families is stimulating for living on with purpose. They are less likely to be placed in senior care assisted living facilities. My grandma dreaded that but it never happened- she died at 89 from heart failure with dementia thrown in. Enjoy heaven grama.

You’re probably right. Times change. Peak Male Crooner time started with men like Arthur Godfrey, Big Crosby and Pat Boone. It was finished it off in the late 50’s by Nat King Cole and Johnny Mathis among others. Even real talents like Dean Martin branched out into comedy roles, although he was very good.
And the Mafia dons breathe a sigh of relief.

Exactly right. The crooner style was already in its sunset years when Frank Sinatra Jr was trying to build his career.
He was pitching to a demographic that was already well into their 30s and 40s, and who were more involved with raising families and chasing the American Dream, than sitting by the victrola, spinning 78 rpm records.
