Article on liberal bias against pitbull type doggies

http://stubbydog.org/2012/05/pit-bulls-by-the-numbers/

Worth the read and addressing how their percentage is underestimated to make them look bad

Wrong white people own pits to liberals and media

Same folks who keep guns

None of those links provide verifiable head counts.

The percentage is *much* higher than they claim.

All you have to do is open your eyes and look around to see that.

You are always in my heart and your god-dog Hrafn knows about you, too.

Both of us are eternally grateful that you helped us be together.

Wild left field comment, for no good reason:

When I first signed up for FR, I was bouncing between two choices of Jethro Tull themed user names.

My other pick was...War Child.

It was kismet that we met.

[and considering my contentious history here, seems I picked the wrong name]

:D

I really don’t think people understand just how *many* there are.

Case in point, at Bike Night in Martinsburg WV, you literally cannot take five steps without having to stop and pet a pit.

It’s a crazy sight.

Imagine being somewhere and seeing a hundred Dobes or Rotts walking around.
Never happen.

My snakes are illegal in the town limits but pits are welcome.

And you are right, the owners are 90% gun owning, truck driving, deer hunting, Trump voting people.

No wonder the libs loathe them.

Even in the heavily pit-infested “hood” in the “big” town near me, there are never any ‘attacks’.

Ever.

The local rag mentions occasionally Labs, Border Collies and the like, because of bites and rabies warnings but there’s just no pit hysteria.

It’s impossible for me to go in or even near the local PetCo or PetSmart and not see a dozen or more getting toys or food.

And no one even blinks.

The *only* thing I’ve ever personally seen is some pit owners have grabbed up their dogs and run off when they see my Dobes.

Guns do not kill people. Pitbulls do. End of story.

I’m not into arguing anymore.
It’s proven pointless.

But the numbers ~are~ wildly out of whack.

Just like the 50s and 60s, when *everyone* and their dog owned a GSD, now it’s pits.

If I were 5 years old again, I’d play “Punch Buggy” in the car but it would be Punch Pitty, instead, there’s that many of them.

You could make a fortune selling bumperstickers that said Guns Don’t Kill People, Bullets Do.

/why I find that darkly hilarious is a mystery

I think if they tied owner background to the dog bite statistics you’d see the reason behind most of the attacks.

Pit bull is not a breed but mix of several breeds. You can’t go to a shelter in Houston without 2/3’s of the dogs being some kind of bully mix. Ban them all? Kill them all? How much bully breed mix is too much? We have always had rescue dogs. Most have had some type of bully breed in them, meaning the big block head, muscular frame.
When my oldest daughter wanted a dog to take back to college with her, I helped her in her search. Really wanted a medium sized dog, at least a year old, and I didn’t want it looking too pit like, not because I have anything against the breed, but because others do. After fostering several dogs, we finally found the cutest Boston Terrier mix that was in terrible shape. White parts of her fur were yellow, she had demodex, could barely walk a block because she had been crated too long. She was almost a year old and 35 pounds. We spent the next few weeks of summer nursing her back to health and my daughter took her back to school. When we visited a few months later, the dog had put on 15 pounds of pure muscle, and other than being black and white, no longer looked like a Boston. She was beautiful, but no denying she was “pit”.
Just out of curiosity, and because South Carolina towns have breed restrictions, I had the dog DNA tested to see if it possibly cleared her of that “pit” label. 11 out of 12 of her ancestors were pure bred English Staffordshire Terrier with one Great grand parents being pure bred English bulldog. Needless to say, we stick with the vet records and adoption records that label her Boston mix.
She is the sweetest baby ever. Strong, menacing looking, but a sweetheart. I would have never thought adding the responsibility of caring for a dog would be beneficial to a college student, but it has been remarkable for her. So, I don’t like the broad brush stroke for all “pits”. 3 out of 4 of our dogs have been some kind of mixture. If they had been aggressive, we would have put them down. And good luck adopting a dog from a shelter in a major city. Almost all of the medium to large size dogs have some kind of bully breed in them. We always hear the terrible stories. Here are a couple of good ones.

If dog fighting was made a Class B felony, and prosecuted accordingly, we’d have a lot fewer of these dogs around to kill people and pets.

Darkly hysterical is more like it, and blindly illogical also. Guns and bullets have no self-propelling minds, mobility, nor murderous makeup. Attack dogs do. To think the idea is hilarious is irresponsibly irrational as well.

Dogsbite is about as rational and unbiased as CAIR.

If they said the sky is blue I would double-check.

If and when Mad Maxine’s deranged little droogs start attacking us in parking lots, a lot of people are gonna feel really stupid, standing there holding a Pug.

Times are changing.

There are deeper reasons why “they” want all protective breeds banned and you can bet those reasons are not benevolent.

People created these breeds to guard them from the devils in the dark.

And a dark age is coming.

There *was* a program wherein LEO offered a $5000 reward for info on active dog fights.

It was very successful, and it made the perps paranoid as hell because they never knew who’d rat on them so they slacked off.

No idea what ever happened to that program.

Well gosh, it’s run by a lawyer who makes a fortune pitching a hissy fit about everything dogs do.

How can you possibly doubt him?

Dog fighting needs to be made a Class B felony. It needs to prosecuted accordingly. And convicted perps need to be sentenced to hard time, with long sentences. That happens enough, we’ll have a lot fewer killer dogs.
