Cheap, but insurance may be pricey.

Is that the same crowd selling us global warming?

Dutchsinse.com felt the volcanologist at Hawaii are honest. He has had a running battle with upper management at USGS.

No, the current property owners simply have more land between their original homestead and the waterfront.

That's so funny (and true).
I work in Manhattan, which is actually a tiny island about 13 miles long and maybe 2 miles wide on average. But a lot happens here that I am never aware of until I see it on the news or hear from my family.
When that cyclist attack happened a few months ago (when that Islamic terrorist drove a truck down a bike path killing 8 and injuring 11), I was only made aware when my wife called to see if I was okay. I was 20 blocks away and had no clue anything even happened. Everybody was just walking around outside just like a normal day.

A mile of new land. Is that a square mile or a mile long and fifty feet wide?

It has more impact than the one on the right. The entire southeast area of the island is affected, plus the parks are closed. Tourism is limited. And the ash and glass clouds do shift. Hilo is at risk of shutdown if the winds shift north. With winds to west, which has happened in past several weeks, the whole southern half of island is at risk, is unhealthy.
I know tourism is only industry on island for many people and they are desperate for people to come, but read the USGS and state warnings! Tourism says come (but omits the limits on what you can do), health and safety says no, be prepared to evacuate, to have bad air, to have closed airports, etc. A mess.

There’s a mess because the state let people build/live/farm in a hazard zone. Many don’t have insurance. Looks like the state didn’t have a contingency plan already in place to relocate permanently displaced people who couldn’t/wouldn’t see to their own arrangements. The only good news is that most of the homes lost around Kapoho Bay, about 80%, were vacation rentals and not primary residences.

If page went there once it can go again. Is it really smart to build homes on volcanoes.
