It's not a debate...it's warfare
American Thinker ^ | 13 May, 2018 | Robert Arvay

A conservative friend (call him Sam) and I were discussing the bizarre but common phenomenon of Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS). As we did so, Sam expressed his growing frustration. Each of us has, on occasion, whether online or off, attempted to reason with sufferers of TDS, but to no avail. Those with the syndrome have a computer-like repertoire of ready replies to everything. If you debunk their first accusation, they pull out one more from their list and continue as if the first one was never challenged. Thus, Sam's utter frustration. One cannot have an honest discussion with a computer that is preprogrammed to stonewall. The tenacity these people demonstrate makes one wonder: why did they never apply their tactics to challenging the corrupt Obama presidency? Why do they interpret every minute detail of Trump's words and actions in the darkest, most negative possible light, while Obama got the benefit of every doubt, even when no reasonable doubt existed? I calmed Sam's frustration by giving him my take. The TDS crowd are not victims of their syndrome. They are soldiers, soldiers on the wrong side of a clash of worldviews that has been going on for millennia, perhaps since Cain slew Abel. The reason they cannot be persuaded is because they are not debating; they are fighting.

They are fighting for the wrong side, but convince themselves that they are on the right side through their virtue signaling.

If you ever find yourself in a discussion or argument with one of those kinds of people, simply ask them right up front if they are even willing to consider changing their opinions/beliefs or if they only are concerned about being the one who changes the opinions of others.

That's right. They are the enemy within. It's time to start treating them like the enemies they are.

There is no point in getting angry at them. Just defeat them.

That sums it up. I agree. We are at war with our neighbors. But that was the point of why the founding fathers created the government as it is. They wanted a system to resolve differences without resorting to active combat. However, we are still at war...just not a shooting war.

It’s war. Make them play by THEIR rules. They don’t like that.

Ahhh, but I’m starting to see small ruptures in the Left’s armor.

Witness the number of blacks that Kanye can bring over with him

Plus This:

https://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2018/05/kimmel_surrenders.html
Jimmy Kimmel Surrenders at ABC Network Up Front Presentation

First small breaks in their flanks, then
Skirmish victories being reported, then
Battles won, then
Cease-fire overtures, then
Suing for peace, then
Capitulation and apologies

(We can negotiate reparations after a little while)

WINNING

The article certainly describes some of the most frustrating types - but there are other types.

For example, I encounter plenty of frustrating lefties that are not purposely stonewalling - they are not soldiers but innocent pawns. Their problem is that their sources of information are exclusively the low hanging fruit of the MSM. They know of no others. I went to a Bat Mitzvah the other day and was pondering the oft pondered question of why American Jews are typically so liberal when it’s the conservatives who defend Israel’s right to exist, and religious freedom in general. The Rabbi finished off a litany of leftist positions with the rhetorical question: Hiw could anyone who reals the NY Times, the Washington Post or who watches CNN not see that we as Americans could be doing a better job at helping our less fortunate neighbors, at rejecting violence, at welcoming those different than ourselves?” The Rabbi was completely unaware that he had listed the three most liberal sources of news as though it was “the news”.

Another type is the genuine pro-government liberal. That one single intellectual mistake - the belief that “the collective” is immune from the character flaws of the flawed and selfish individual, and that a central government can therefore be the solution to love fed problems, and never the cause - this single bias drives a mind set that is protected by confirmation bias and circular reasoning, and therefore impenetrable.

There are many other types too. We have our work cut out for us, because according to the 2nd law of thermodynamics, there are many more ways to get it wrong than there are to get it right

The article is right in its conclusion though - we have to view this as a fight for survival - not an intellectual debate.

TDS and throw in the Battered Voter Syndrome or BVS people. Similar to battered wife syndrome, those suffering from BVS can’t get enough abuse from government after being repeatedly lied to hoodwinked and looted, they keep voting for the same lying abusive politicians. They just can’t get enough abuse.

I find a few types that are part of the BDS/TDS axis of evil.

Those that are still fighting battles with their parents long after they have moved out and started careers. The saddest are the ones who have lost their parents and now can't reconcile.

Those that willfully participate in sin and still have enough conscience to be embarrassed when called on it. Drug abuse and sexual sins abound, and often these folks are so wrapped up in lies that they just cannot tell the difference between reality and the lies they live.

Those that had a “major sin” earlier in their lives and now hate it, and by extension, hate themselves. Abortion and other sins seem to make up the bulk of these folks I meet. Counseling is advised but there will be no peace without forgiveness.

Look at Jesus’s two commandments or the Ten Commandments. Breaking them is just like than breaking oneself, and a person's free will fights to keep from being broken.

You can’t reason someone out of a position that they weren’t reasoned into.

I was a zotted #Nevertrump up till he won the election. Being #Nevertrump after the fact is just peeing into the wind.

I know of no evidence that Trump is a Christian or a Conservative, but he is apparently a good Samaritan and a shrewd businessman.

I believe whatever follows this Administration is likely to be horrendous.

Whoever is dumbest last, loses.

Repubicans and Democrats have gone to war before. It was called the Civil War but it was truely the ‘Republican vs. Democrat’ war. It’s not red states vs. blue it’s blue states verses grey and it has never ended it just smolders instead. Its part of the larger war of good vs. evil with the Rats on the bad side.
