Once upon a time in New York City, Sherman Jackson lived at the glittering heights of public life in a privileged place of bold-faced names and media stars.
For a time, he appeared on TV sets citywide as a newsman at NBC. Later he appeared on-air as a press secretary for some of the biggest politicians in the city.
The schools chancellor. The parks commissioner. Controller candidate Herman Badillo. He stood in front of cameras and parried with reporters, shaping the narrative of the city itself.
From the 1970s into 2000, Jackson's quotes appeared in every newspaper in town. In the pre-internet era, he was interviewed countless times on radio and TV.
He carried an impressive address book filed with the private numbers of big name politicians who relied on his advice. He spoke with the authority of a major player, a savvy insider.
And then it all went south.
Things happened. Situations changed. Life, as it sometimes does, took a turn, and Jackson came to realize that for some of us, everything you think you will have forever suddenly isn't there anymore.
And so on Friday, Jackson, now 70 years old, awoke once again in a big open dormitory room along with 24 other men, a resident of a city-run homeless shelter hard by the entrance to the BQE.

“What happened to your queer party friends?”
You ‘re good to go. You have met the four-hour rule.
Just throwing this out there, but perhaps choosing to live in one of the most expensive cities in the nation while on a fixed income well below the cost of housing isn’t the greatest idea...
That is what is called being Liberalized.
There’s a 4 hour rule?
Adding to list. Thanks.
I remember when some would chastise and beat anyone who dupe posted about the head and shoulders.
Like the “Related” norm that’s developed.
...and the 4 hour rule makes sense for those who aren’t as frequent and may have missed the first 7 duplicates.
Let a thousand of these stories bloom.
This guy’s getting $2K a month in Social Security checks. He can live in a low-crime area in most big cities. There’s something else to the story. Perhaps he’s on drugs or booze, or a teller of tall tales.
I don't see any reason why obscurity shouldn't be his fate.
Haven’t read the whole story but there’s gotta be *something* unusual going on here.Booze and/or drugs are my top suspects.
Yes. Four hours for same source. No time limit is different source. Per mod
cool thanks
I accept/suffer the disappointment when title search hands me defeat.
The only time I get caught duping is when I get into a race condition with another freeper posting the same thing at the same time.
Play your cards right and you can get your housing, food and healthcare free in NYC—leaving your SS payout for the finer things in life.
This guy gets $2100 per month im SS bennies? I presume that’s the actual paycheck, after medicare is deducted.
This guy has made some poor decisions and apparently continues to do so.
When we retired the IRA was going backwards and I simply felt I could make no withdrawals. Then there was a SS issue. Our income was about $600 per month, we lived off of that with money left over for about 8 months.
Point is, this guy could be able to live with ease under the right programs to assist with med bills. Only someplace else. He’s a libtard, just can’t feel sorry for him.
He apparently saved nothing while hobnobbing with high level politicos for years, and insists on living in one of the most expensive cities by being subsidized by taxpayer money. Shocker.
He could be quite comfortable in Section 8 or senior housing in the Midwest, but why do I suspect that would be “beneath” him? He probably doesn’t even know how to drive.
Not very surprising, “he chose poorly”.
That’s why I never post. I never come across an interesting that another freeper hasn’t already posted, you have to be really quick and well read on this site!
9 months in a shelter (for free?) x $2,100 a month in social security checks. Looks to me that he has or could have a lot of savings. Rent most anywhere away from big cities is $1,000 or less for a nice big apartment or even a home.
