My dad, way back in the day, was famous for his “special” brownies. He simmered the special ingredient in butter until the oils released.
Those crazy kids........

My local Whole Paycheck is not even that good! And I just checked one in the new city I’m thinking of moving to and that wasn’t too great either. The meat section is small and expensive. Very little veal or lamb. And Wegman’s is much better on fish. I do recommend the 365 large eggs: they are bright orange and round.

You won’t regret it. I cooked Italian sausage Sous Vide style, and it kept the juicies in it, instead of them bursting open and cooking out. If I don’t Sous Vide, the cook time is so quick. I’m close to getting a second one to do multiple foods at the same time.

They opened one near me a while back; I’ll probably go once just to say I did.

What do folks think of Trader Joe’s? I’ve never tried that either.

How is the Instant Pot different than a pressure cooker?

“Does anyone use one a lot?”

I DO! I have a bunch of Chinese cooking tools. 4 Woks too. Buy the well-made ones! Chinese lady friend taught me how to cook Shanghai style

It is a pressure cooker; but you can use it as a slow-cooker, too (you’d want to get the extra glass lid for that); and the model we bought will make yogurt. It’s electric, not a stove-top cooker.

You might find that Whole Foods has good bread from local bakeries and decent eggs and some nice cheese. It has some organic produce and some local produce in summer. They have inexpensive (365 is the generic name) olive oil from Spain, Greece and Italy. I finally found champagne vinegar there only to find it is as good as ordinary white vinegar.

The New York City WFs are good. The suburban ones, in my opinion, depend on how rich and food-educated the neighborhood is.

Trader Joe’s is very inexpensive and has some good deals. Very bad produce, though. For a long time it had kosher chicken which I like (Empire) but that seems to have disappeared.

Returning now from my roadtrip to the deep south, I have picked up a sack of White Lily Flour, pure cane syrup, sorghum syrup (impossible to find except at a Tennessee market high in the Appalachians), apple butter and apple jelly from an Alabama farmer’s market. I may have bought other things but they are locked in my suitcase.

Is that similar to the European ThermoMix?

Co ahead, laugh. At Easter time, I was looking for some Easter Keilbasa [very good selection in CT]; the few grocery stores I have up here...the closest I could find was *Polish rope*.

Heh. I’m in a food desert up here. Send help!

Trader Joes has some really good products. I especially like the Chicken Soup Dumplings. They come six to a pack for less than $3 a pack and only take 3 minutes in the microwave. Just had one for a quick, easy dinner with some gyozo sauce which they sell also. Hubby likes their chicken pot pies, though I don’t care for them that much. They have GREAT deals on cheap wine.

I have a very expensive pressure cooker we bought when we were boaters. I don’t see the advantage to an Instant Pot over a pressure cooker other than it’s a stovetop vs. electric power. What am I missing?

I’ve read that the (used to be) Two-Buck Chuck is only available in some areas? From what I’ve heard, they don’t seem to have it in ours.

I’ve never used any other pressure cooker - I was always afraid of them. The Instant Pot is electronic and programmable in all sorts of ways. If you’re used to pressure cooking, it might not seem special to you. For people who have never used one, it’s very easy to figure out and play with.

Every summer I spend weeks w/ my mom outside of Asheville. There’s a little Farmer’s market 3 minutes from her house. He has a sorghum/molasses blend in a quart jar that I bought for making BBQ sauces. It’s really good. And at Christmas I found really good pure dark molasses at Dollar Tree, we are down south!!!!!

If you want some mailed, PM me, be glad to do it. Offer stands in perpetuity ; )
