...because as I understand it, winning marathons is BIG in Africa, for the runners and their families but also for national pride.IIRC correctly the winners of the Boston Marathon get $100K (or more) and I also seem to recall something about a Mercedes as well.And having traveled rather extensively in East Africa I can assure you that a net worth of $50,000 (US Dollars),after taxes,of course,would make a Kenyan,Tanzanian or Ethiopian among the richest people in his/her homeland.
